Hey all,

I ended up purchasing the used ET4 I had posted about; thanks for the advice. I'm loving it for m commute, but today I encountered a problem. When I went to open my seat, the key just turns in the lock (will turn a full 360 with no resistance), so I can't open the seat. The key will just spin in the lock--it isn't catching anything. I can kind of get my fingers under the seat to feel around, but I don't really know what I'm feeling for since I've never looked at how the lock catch and release works.

So...any tips on how to get into my seat?

Thanks.

You are unlikely to get any tips on the open forum as opening the seat without a key topics would let the criminals raid our underseat spaces. Someone might help you via PM but only if they know that you are a real owner! I'm sure you understand the repercussions and no offence meant!

Best thing to do is take it to your dealer. It should be a relatively easy and cheap fix!

oh, that sux, but what the problem is that there is a stop screw that would stop it from spinning all the way around, so i think it is that the screw backed out and fell out inside the underseat storage, but that won't help you becouse you can't open the seat to get to it. i would deffentally talk to your dealer but you might not need a new part. one thing, when you turn the key inside of the lock, can you pull up on the seat and open it at the same time? it is worth a shot.

Hey,

I totally understand not wanting to tell the world how to get into a Vespa seat; I don't want that either.

I refined my search terms a little (I did search before I posted), and I see that this is a common issue. I do have enough gas to take it to a dealer, I didn't get the Vespa from there but they should be able to help.

This is a pretty cheap thing to fix generally? that's good news.

I tried pulling up and pushing down as I turned the key--nothing.

If someone who can help me wants to PM me, I'd be willing to take pictures of myself with the scooter--holding my keys what whatever else it would take to prove it's my scooter.

Thanks again.

There's a retainer clip under the seat that holds the locking mechanism in place; it's likely that your clip is broken or has fallen off into your pet carrier. Just reinstall the clip and you should be back in business.
