My renewal has come in for the GTS125 and frankly I can't believe how much they (Equity Red Star) are trying to charge me, £250 for fully comp.

Anybody have any tips on good, reasonably priced Insurers?

I did a bit of searching on the net and couldn't get the price down below about £215.

I made some phone calls and the most amusing comment I got was that 'the rest of the UK's premiums make up for the amount of scooters that get stolen in London!!!!!!', I was flabbergasted but not totally surprised tbh.

I can't understand how my scooter has become 1 year older, I have a years no claims now and I've went from CBT to full licence yet the premium has risen.

Insurance is a difficult one to recommend, with so many different factors affecting the quote, but the best I found was ebike, £95 F/C, no excess, legal, inc breakdown cover for a PX200.

I am in the same situation, I have been riding for a year and I have gone from CBT to full licence. Fully comp best quote for my GTS (garaged at night and locked up in work and I live in a London borough) was just under £200.00 from ebike. Not the end of the world I thought.

I'm even more confused now!

You're riding a 300cc scooter and living near London, my scoot is also garaged yet I'm £23 more

What do you Guys reckon is the value of a 58 plate GTS125 with flyscreen, chrome rear and side protection, chrome bumper and sometimes a tobacco leather saddle.

I've been sticking in £3000!

Joe! You're back!
I was wondering where you'd gone - obviously been out "enjoying" all that weather.

Unfortunately I can't offer any advice since you're a couple of months ahead of me in the whole process, but I'll be following this thread keenly for exactly that reason.

Price comparison sites are now doing motorbike/scooter insurance. You can find some good deals on the likes of gocompare and even tesco...

It's worth plugging away on the comparison sites, and calling some brokers.

Not all insurance co's have the same risk criteria (i.e. you will be less of a risk to some co's than others>>>cheaper insurance). We live in Zone 1 London, a great place to get your scoot nicked, but we have access to an alarmed garage and we live in flats which have entry/exit gates. Some insurers will take the specifics into a/c (resulting in a cheap quote), whereas others won't. And then again, there may be some who are looking to get more customers from a particular area/age group/etc, and who will give you a good quote because of that.

CIA have consistently been the best for me and Mrs BB, over years. For the reasons above, they may be rubbish for you.

But I would recommend spending that bit of extra time on the phone and the PC. It can really pay off.

Good luck

Oh, and FWIW, I don't think I got much of a reduction in the year I got my full license (I had no claims, as you do). Reason cited for small reduction was that there had been an increase in overall claims.

Oh, and down here they tell us that our quotes are so high because of all the scooters getting stolen in Scotland Razz emoticon Laughing emoticon

Aye, I'm back!

I don't get on much these days, working Office hours now and they have restricted the internet access and I've also started a course at Uni so I'm pretty busy.

I usually use Go Compare to find my insurance, usually changing to a different broker every year (there's normally an initial discount when taking out a new policy).

Also have you got any anti theft devices fitted; ie datatag, an alarm or a sold secure or thatcham approved lock.

These all help to bring down your premium.

For my GT200 I currently pay £77 fully comp, but then more than 5 yrs no claims, passing the Institute of Advanced Motorists bike test and being 44 all help. 8)
