You've got some of the cheapest in the world, even in CA. Reality and priority realignment possibly required?

I understand that jim, but the article was about the US states, not global gas prices. CA is typically 40 cents per gallon more than other states, now we are 60 cents, which I thought was newsworthy.

We are 24 cents more than you and that's probably Oahu. Outer islands are at last 20cents more. Alaska has the pipeline and they are the most expensive You regular taxes are WAY more than ours tho.

So a 60 - 80 mile round-trip commute? Common in the UK, some folk do 100+ miles each way here. Cost of housing etc.
60 cents per gallon difference? That's what, about 18c per litre, about 12p per litre - yep we can have that price difference within the UK within a few miles. Just so you know - the rest of the world is in wonder at the US indignation at the 'price of gas' when you have it half the price of the said rest of world. And we don't examine our belly-buttons over mpg... I'm not posting this in any animosity - but the attitude of some US posters to energy use/costs just - raises eyebrows shall we say.

We're all being screwed - but some of us can see some justification for the screwing. Which can be anything from local economic circumstances (CA deficit?) to concerns about local pollution (London UK, or Beijing CN), or wider concerns about limited global recourses and possible climate change.
You think our prices haven't changed? We don't like it, especially the way the tax regime is worked out (there's a tax on a tax FFS here) - but overall it concentrates minds on using less petrol, and I can't see how anyone can view that as bad. Even India is increasing their 'protected' prices'. Gawd help us if the Gulf-stream switches due to global warming (however caused) - the water-wars will be far worse than any energy problems we face now. Lets not bleat too much about measures, however half-hearted, which put off that day. |

jimc, i don't think it is a totally bad idea, i agree with you that EVERYBODY needs a push to help us get our use of fossil fuels to stay at a minimum. and high gas prices is the easiest way to get people to turn to more Eco-friendly ways. i just hope it is not totally gotten rid of, i love a gas motorcycle, or atv, or other sport equipment like that. but as far as a car i would not miss the gas part of autos. sorry to the auto enthusiasts out there, i love cars but not as much as vespas.

The one thing that I find funny about fuel prices are that people will shell out $5.oo and a tip for a Frap. but cry murder about gas prices. I've worked 10 years in a refinery and it take alot to make that gas. if you think eco friendly will save you money guess again. you will pay the same if not more for tree hugger brand energy.

To avoid getting in trouble talking politics, let's just say we agree we are doing our part to reduce oil consumption and pollution by riding our scoots. |
