Can you tell me what to expect for riding conditions for first two weeks of November lower half of the state, I'm planning a trip from Los Angeles, Utah, Arizona, back to Los Angeles. This is a non Vespa trip, I'll be on HD FLHX. trip starts Nov 13-19 2009

Thanks in advance for info.

I've spent a lot of time in those parts during that time of year. The best thing I can say is that the weather is unpredictable... You can have 65 degrees (F) and sunny for a week, or a day, or an hour - and be going through a blizzard a few minutes after that... There are a lot of terrain variations that help to augment the weather variations as well.

Essentially I would say you can do such a thing - just be prepared for the worst of weather and the possibility that you could get snowed or iced in at a hotel for a couple of days. Keep your schedule as flexible as possible. There is definitely less traffic in these parts during that time of the year so in good weather conditions it would be quite enjoyable I think.

I am hiking into the Grand Canyon towards the end of November and am planning for similar situations even with just hiking: hot weather, icy weather and everything in between...

Best of luck!

I lived out in AZ and NM for a while working on the Indian reservations and it's a crap shoot. A lot of desert so it can get cold at night. Expect everything and hopefully you'll get nothing but sunny days. Watch out for the lightning storms. While they are beautiful they can be dangerous. Only been to Moab Utah and it was may i think. Great weather. Have fun. Don't know your route but i always carried extra gas, some food and water just in case. The route i took into monument valley was deserted and i saw ONE car in 7 hours While there are cell phones now i would question if you would have service in places.

We do a no reservations ride. We'll ride tell sundown or close to it and find a place to stay the night. We have no route or map to follow we just ride. we know the general direction and plan and just work off that. Its kind of fun not knowing were we will end up for the day. We only stop for gas and a few pictures and some food. I'm hoping to fine the old Devils highway 666. that runs in that area but who know what will happen. Our motorcycles are touring bike and made for long range trips so I get around 225 miles on a tank of gas when droning on the highway.

175 only once did i live on the rez in BIA housing and that was in WindowRock AZ. I had to commute from the nearest non rez town. There is a lot of wilderness out there so just be prepared. Deserts get hot during the day and cold at nite. I used to have a 2hr drive one way to get to a mall I travel like you. Have an idea where i want to go but always find i change my mind. Go where the day takes me

I like like to travel that way so I'm never in a hurry or late to a hotel. I have HOG and AAA road service so with any luck if I do have a problem someone will come get me.

175 in Gallup NM there used to be some old log cabins you could stay in from back in the days of RTE 66. In fact they filmed some of Natural Born Killers in them. Looks like a fun trip. Take lost of pics. I miss living out there. Had a lot of fun out there
