I have just bought a military issued poncho for the rain. Kindly please advise if it is ok to ride in it on a scooter i.e. not being caught by the rear wheel & etc...

clearly, phaedrus, you do not live in Asia.

Ponchos are pretty standard stuff in alot of Asian countries where tons of ppl ride scoots rain or shine. El-cheapo ponchos are generallly more compact than pants/jacket, and it works well enough around town. But I'd go for something less flappy at speed. Perfectly safe from a caught-in-the-wheel perspective.

Thanks Both:

1) I didn't get wet where the poncho was covering though I could feel each rain drop.
2) yes, I am from Asia, last time I checked, Hong Kong belongs to Asia.
3) God bless who were affected by the recent typhoon attack on the Philippines!

Hi Phaedrus,

I'm from the Philippines, thanks for the kind words in your last post...

As to your original post:

I agree that the 2pc raincoat (jacket/pants) generally works better since I find that the poncho is hard to keep in place when in motion. Also, because of the seating position on a scoot, it is inevitable that your arms, sides and legs will get wet.

Additional suggestion - get yourself a windscreen/flyscreen. It helps a lot in deflecting rain, particularly on your lower body (which will come in handy if you elect to retain the poncho).

Hope this helps...

As of 1997, I stand corrected! Poncho thoughts notwithstanding.
