Let it be known, I've begun the celebration early.
But thought you all should know.
In the U.S. October is 'National Cookie Month'. Clown emoticon
What's not to like about that!

I found this articleabout yes yes cookies on another site and thought i would post.

Q: A few months ago, a dear friend gave me the enclosed letter from your newspaper section, "Write to Know," which was given to her by her sister-in-law. I couldn't believe my eyes as I read this letter. All three of us worked where "Yes Yes" cookies were made in Clifton, N.J.

The name of the company was Federal Sweets and Biscuit Co., on Clifton Boulevard, Clifton, N.J. I started working there in June 1961, right after I graduated high school. Federal Sweets closed its doors many, many years ago and sold most of its recipes to a company in Massachusetts. The Yes Yes cookies were one of many cookies that were made at Federal Sweets. Others included Vita Sticks, Hawaiian Lei, Pecan Pies, Dutch Boy and Girl, Peanut Butter Patties, Chocolate Mints, Sugar Cookies, Coconut Macaroons, Jelly Jumbles and more.

Many of their cookies were put into beautiful tins, and I wish I had saved each and every one of them. One was even a sewing tin with a pin cushion on top. In those years, cookies were sold in bulk to the five-and-dime stores - Grants, Woolworth's, Kresge and Kress. I remember going into the stores and seeing them behind the glass counters and being able to pick out which ones you wanted. What a treat in those days.

This letter from A.C.M., Gilbert, brought back so many happy memories for me. This was one of the best places to work, as we were one big family. It was a huge room with different units set up. There were no cubicles, so you could see everyone at a glance. Of course, there were no computers or cell phones, but what fun we all had working there. I attended evening school and became a Special Education teacher, which was always my dream.

Here I am, 46-plus years later, but I remember working at Federal Sweets like it was yesterday. Those were really special days.

Please let A.C.M. in Gilbert know about her Yes Yes cookies - that they actually did exist - and thank her for giving me a look back into the past. If you print a response to A.C.M., Gilbert, in your paper, please send me a copy. I would love it! Thank you.

175 that so awesome that you worked there. There were the best cookies. We got them in boxes at our local Grand Union supermarket. It does make sense since this was in Pittsfield MA back in the early to mid 60's. I will check it out and thanks for the the google. I'll send you a copy when i write a little note

I worked with a guy during my time at a school district. Many times the ladies in the shcool offices would like to offer up cookies as a Thank-you. They would ask what his favorite was and he always asked for Oatmeal Chocolate Chip cookies. Helater told me he always askes for that type as you cannont buy them that way in the grocery store and it ensures he will get homemade cookies for his thank you.

i always remembered that but I am conflicted in his logic and gratitude ... but it worked.

I have never heard of National Cookie Month and I cannot be more excited! Finally a holiday for me - I have never experienced a cookie flavor that wasn't to my liking. And Aloha Judy... whoa, you people have some awesome cookie varieties over there - guava, arare (?), kona, mac, etc. etc., there is some little bakery on Kauai (not Kauai Kookie - but I like them a lot too) that makes fantastic cookies, thank god they were expensive or I would have had to be shipped home as oversized cargo.
What exciting new. National Cookie Month... who knew!

One problem though - October and NCM leads right into the traditional gorge fests. Maybe this is why they designed MuMu's.

White chocolate mac nut cookies are to die for and so id their olive bread that my rabbit loved. Kaui Cookie has become to commercial and aren't as good any more You probably came upon a local one like mine and your right that's why we have MuMu's Funny antidote. We have aloha friday's here where you can wear MuMu's and aloha shirts to work. When you watch the news you always know when friday is by what people are wearing

OK, Aloha Friday where everybody brings cookies, sounds a lot more fun then regular Casual Friday. I have seen some offices that would be well served by having their employees wear MuMu's (they certainly can cover a multitude of sins). Olive bread.... well, I have a beagle dog named Wabbit who loves olive bread and unfortunately, also rabbits.
