Hello
I recently bought a 2002 et2 with 300 miles. It was hardly used and is in graet shape. The problem is I notice that the proportion of trottle is not compatible with the the forward motion. What I mean is the I turn the trottle and there is to my understanding too much delay in response,From stand still it is not smooth and kind of kicks in late.Is this normal or should I get it checked out?Thank you in advance.

At 300 miles the scooter hasn't been broken in yet. If you ride it like you've stolen it you'll break it in well and should see the hesitation greatly decrease if not be completely eliminated altogether.

my bike did that, it was a split second delay before the power kicked in. i agree give the bike another 1000 miles and it should be just fine.

Welcome to MV!

Could this be a two-stroke power band issue?

On my LXV50 which has a two-stroke engine, from a stop, if I were to open full throttle, the scoot will move forward, and then noticeably pick up speed in the second "stage" of the acceleration. 4-stroke engines are much smoother and doesn't have this characteristic.

Re: sleepy vespa
also becouse it was sitting for so long it might take a little bit to get all the parts working the best, i know it sounds dumb but my car ran much slower after it sat for about 2 years, then i put on 4000 miles and it ran like new again.

Well that's just about what I was saying. Run the thing wide open for about 1,000 miles and all your problems will disappear.

My ET2 always acted like that too. It was the same year and had about 1200 miles on it,but it never got better. Of course, I could never find a good mechanic either, so I wish you luck. I traded it in a few weeks ago and I still regret it.

Funny, I never heard the term but I know my Dad liked to do that to his cars, especially Mom's when he drove it. We would get out on the highway and go as faST AS WE COULD. He would also accelerate hard at stop signs and lights. It seemed to help. He called it cleaning out the car's pipes.

Perhaps vespuccio is referring to the fact that all 50cc automatic two stroke scooters have a delay while the engine revs from idle until the clutch engages, at least when the scoot is fully stopped. This is much less noticeable on the larger scoots.

Cheers,
Bob
