So i was thinking for a long time, how to make a backrest for the mp3?

Cutting a hole in the saddle concerns cutting in the leather....

Then i saw thing backrest by goldwing. Here the backrest is supported by the grips in the back (like on the mp3 400):

Is it possible? Now, who is a paintshop wizzkid here so we all can see how it would like like on a mp3.

there are the following advantages:
1 its removable without leaving marks
2 no damage to saddle
3 lots of comfort
4 lots of support
5 cheaper?
6 once its fabricated, its easy to mount
imagine on the mp3
imagine on the mp3
on mp3
on mp3

i like it, but some how the seat needs to be opened without too much trouble.

I did see one last year that had a back rest added through the seat. don't know if it was removable or water tight. Only saw a picture of a used one for sale and when I got there to check it out it was gone. I'll look for the picture that Glow Guy sent me.

I think this is what you were talking about Fuzzy...

http://www.utpr.com/piaggio4.html

Robert, believe it or not, I had thought of the same idea for a backrest, mainly because on the 500 we have the metal tubing running down the sides. My thought to deal with what Fuzzy was talking about(opening the seat), was to have one side on a hinge and the other side with a pin bolt so that you could basically flip the backrest assembly over to one side to open the seat.

One thing to consider if you do this Robert is that IMHO the tubing is the only "tricky" part. One poster on here a long time ago(Sim perhaps) was smart and used a Car Headrest for his backrest mod. This is a great idea because all the work is done for you and there are about a million options for this. You could go to any car dealer, junkyard, or online auto store and order the shape, color, and contour you wanted. Many of the newer SUV headrest are nice and tiny but very padded. Since they all have the basic metal bottom setup, it wouldn't be hard to fabricate a bracket to fit them to the tube. Plus if you wanted to get silly, you could get one with the builtin DVD player in the back for your passenger .
