I drive a John Deere Z-Trak tractor all day and it's not uncommon
for me to be sitting in a puddle of water all day while it is raining.

Every pair of so called "waterproof" pants that I have leak in the butt,
Is there a real pair of waterproof pants that I can get for work and riding the scooter?

I've been through 5 different brands of pants so far,
Not really looking to buy heavy duty fireman pants,
But if that's the only solution, Then I may have to.

Anyone have a pair that definitely doesn't leak in the butt after a whole day in the rain?

Better yet, invest in some with breathing fabric, so you arn't sitting in a puddle of sweat.

If he's sitting in a seat in a puddle of water any breathable fabric is going to leak.

I'd think the solution would be to get out of the puddle; perhaps a honey-comb or beaded seat cover type thing.

If you forego breathable for the sake of truly waterproof, you'll still be sitting in a puddle. Only the puddle will be on the inside, and will be composed primarily of sweat.

You might try LLBean.com for foul weather gear/rain suits. Gore-Tex would be the fabric that you'd probably want. Supposedly some of their better suits are completely waterproof. Be prepared to pay a lot though---their merchandise is not inexpensive. However, if you did get something from them and you didn't like it, they have a 100% satisfaction guarantee which I have taken advantage of in the past and have gotten a refund with no questions asked--just keep your receipt. Of course, if an item is obviously misused or something like that, they might not give you a total refund.

QFT.

A sponge is your best friend if you have to sit in a puddle for extended periods. One of those big yellow puffy car sponges tethered behind your seat in easy reach... It can remove the puddle in one squeeze, and breathables will keep you comfortable in between the water removal. (I'm not just spitballin' here...I speak from experience.)

Kayaking pants. Any outdoor store should have them REI,Patagonia or LL Bean. Kept me dry when on the river shooting rapids I used to wear them skiing and when riding my Helix in the rain also

Just buy some Gore-Tex or similar pants. Brands like the North Face, Arc'teryx, Mountain Hardwear, Patagonia, Marmot and Outdoor Research all make some that work. I have a pair of the North Face Venture pants made from HyVent (cheap G-T), and they always keep me dry.

The water tends to flow down my back and then puddle onto the seat,
I've tried sitting on a garbage bag and periodically shaking out the puddle,
But that is a very temporary solution and I still get a wet butt..

Hadn't thought of kayaking pants,
We have a Mountain Equipment Co-op store that sells them in Toronto.

Now that it is getting colder, Although I only have about 8 weeks of work left,
Maybe I should look into getting some waterproof snow pants.

Although, Perhaps a longer raincoat that goes below the waist and let's me
sit on the tail of the coat would be a better idea, M.E.C. has one.

How about two rain coats. One Rain jacket that you keep zipped and a trench coat that you leave un-zipped and hangs over the back of the seat so rains just runs off onto the ground?

BIG FOOT i think mine were NorthFace and had a liner in them which along with some long underwear kept warm and dry on the slopes. A paddling jacket with neoprene cuffs and neck band over your riding jacket will keep the water out. Mine had a zippered front pocket and zippers on the neoprene sleeves. It was a NorthFace also. Used that for skiing too. Good luck

Don't want to do that,
Then they'd take me off the tractor and have me clean out the fountains and their stupid man made river of remembrance.

Wear a longer coat but don't sit on it, have the back of the jacket go over the back of the seat so the rain doesn't puddle into the seat.

Wished I could do something like that, But the engine is just behind the seat,
Also the engine exhaust is very close to the back of the seat as well.
Don't want to risk getting another rain coat melted.

I lost my M.E.C. rain coat to the exhaust a few weeks ago, It's melted.
(It fell out of the netted pocket on the back of the seat and onto the engine)

I'm using my Wet Skins rain jacket for work at the moment,
It has vents for better air flow while I'm on my scooter.

The tractor design interferes with that idea, Air intake under the seat etc.
Besides it wouldn't be safe if I got stuck in the seat in an emergency.

Can I buy NorthFace stuff in Canada?

Got any links to what this stuff looks like?

That'd be very helpful.

Thanks for the idea's.

Edit:
Just looked at the NorthFace website,
Their inseams are for regular fit only,
I'm unfortunately longer legged.

Thanks anyways.

Look for the jacket since that may be a big help. It has a cinch waist so you could put it over the top of whatever waterproof pants you have. You'll have your neck, wrists and back covered. That will decrease the amt of water that will get in. Put yourself in a dryer and shrink a little then they'll fit Razz emoticon

I bought some Dakota HYPER-DRI® HD3 Waterproof/Breathable Bib Pants from Marks Work Wearhouse,
But unfortunately they leak in the butt.
(I had to buy XXL in order to get the longer leg inseam fit)

Nice comfortable pants, But useless if you are sitting in the rain.

That's a possibility, They have Carhart available in quite a few stores in Canada.

Thanks, I'll look into those, Maybe they have a guarantee too.

They are definitely for working in and you will never get any guff foom anyone who sees them. EVERYONE in Alaska lived in Carhartt during my visits to the school districts up there. Even the ladies wore Carhartt outer gear over their dresses.

The week I was there it was 8*F with 50-90 MPH winds. NOT KIDDING

I like the Wet Skins jacket that I have, Best jacket I've ever owned,
I bought it from Costco with the pants for $50. can$
The pants were regular fit though, So the pants unfortunately were too short.

It's been an eternity trying to find some pants that don't leak in the butt,
Perhaps I should try searching for some longer inseam Wet Skins.

I would suggest some Frogg Toggs. They are breathable, but waterproof, and very inexpensive. They also have some with a bib which would keep the water from going down your back.

I've looked at the Road toad and Leep Frog suits recently,
That is a highly possible solution.

Thanks for reminding me.

I could wear it at work and then wear it home on the scooter.

Bass Pro Shops carries them in Canada,
Closest store is in Vaughn, Ontario.

Now I'll just have to get some nice weather to drive up there and try some suits on.

Does the water drain from the seat or just fill up under your rump?

If you are sitting in a bucket, you are asking to get wet in almost anything. Have you tried the Wet Skins pants under a pair of water proof pants like the Carhartts?

The Carhartts do give you the option to vent the lower legs of you need to cool off some.

Just bouncing ideas around....

Yeah, It just seeps through the breathable layer and gets the rump wet,
That's why I resorted to using a garbage bag to sit on, Got tired of wiping the seat.

This time of year I'm not going to sweat,
This is our rainy and cold season, So waterproofness in a seated position is paramount.

The full timers at work wear heavy rubber, Us seasonals just get what we have.

Hate to have to go to a Fireman store, But I may have too.

I forgot to mention...I tore them accidently.

Besides, They were double layered like snow pants, Way too hot.

But I may use some duct tape on them.

I actually have a pair of M.E.C. gaiters, I'll wear them in the winter to extend my walking shoes.

Not a bad idea though to use them to extend pants, Hadn't thought of doing that.

Thanks Tim.

I wore FroggToggs from NJ to TN, and then from TN to WV in the outer bands of Katrina. They held up pretty well even in those extreme conditions. Best $65 I spent.

Go to Mark Works warehouse and buy a set of Helly Hansen rubber pants. They cost about $60 ($CAN) and will not leak. They even come in an ugly forest green colour.

I went and bought lots of other stuff (belstaff, first gear and lots of other types) and nothing my friend works as well as these pants. They are bimb pants and have heavy duty rubber right up into the chest area.

I got really tired of using this fancy motorcycle stuff with the sealed seams and one day when I went to work and it looked like I pissed my pants (rainy day of course and those you have had this happen know what I'm talking about) I made it my mission to find something that works. Nothing I say again will work as well and be as cheap as these pants. Timothy
