Wondering if anyone knows the output in watts for the gts250?
Also would like to know the total wattage use for all lights, horn, turn indicators, etc etc..

I figure if I know the total that is available, and the total that is used... I should be able to subtract the two and thereby see what wattage I have for "extra" like .. heated gloves!

If anyone out there is using heating gloves, I would love to hear from you and learn a bit about how they work..

Tks all

I don't know the output, but I reckon this thread might be better suited to the "General Discussion" forum than the "MP3 Discussion" forum.

So moved.

The rules of thumb I've always used:

125/150cc - hardly any spare capacity, max 4A extra with electrics in tip-top condition.
250/300cc - up to 8A spare.
400/500cc - up to 12A spare.

Hi Harve!
Various posts on the subject:

The GTS (at speed) will produce 24 amps when cold (approx. 307 watts) and 21 amps when warm (approx. 269 watts).

We run 2 Gerbing Heated jacket liners and 2 sets of gloves with the dual control thermostats for each, so the gloves and jackets can be contolled separately. We also never turn anything on until we're moving. Switches are OK but are always giving you FULL power and always need to be turned off when stopped, even at a stop lights.

The alternator can handle the heated gear. We're careful when we turn our stuff on and always adjust it lower when warmed up. Turning the thermostats down uses less power form the scooter electrical system.

With 26k on my GTS now I'm still on the original battery.

Hope that helps,

There we go! That's what I was looking for. Thanks. If the ~8 amps (96 watts) leftover for accesories is correct then there is not a lot of margin for lights and heated gear. My Gerbing jacket liner draws 55 watts. Maybe some extra for gloves but that's about it.

I run heated gloves, vest and pant liner, grips two garmin GPS's (2820, 276c) and can even charge a cell phone, on my GTS with no issues under a full load.

Granted, all of them are wired into a relay, so when the scoots off, so are the extras.

This is a question that's been vexing me for some time. I still don't have the full answer, but here's what I know so far, with a few reasonable guesses thrown in:

GTS250 ELECTRICAL POWER BUDGET

Continuous running loads -- Power (watts)
Headlight -------------------------- 60 (high beam)
Running lights -------------------- 20 (5w x 4)
Headlight relay -------------------- 2
Injection loads relay -------------- 2
Injection loads -------------------- 60 (estimate) (fuel pump, fuel injector, ignition coil)
ECU -------------------------------- 10 (estimate)
Instrument cluster --------------- 5 (estimate)
Immobilizer antenna ------------- 1 (estimate)
Voltage regulator ----------------- 10 (estimate)

Intermittent running loads:
Lambda probe heater ------------- 5 (estimate)
Radiator fan ----------------------- 60
Horn ------------------------------- 15
Turn signals ----------------------- 20 (10w x 2)

TOTAL: --------------------- 170 continuous

Alternator output: ------------- 312 (cold)
------------------------------------265 (warm)

Available for accessories: ----- 142 (12A cold)
------------------------------------- 95 (8A warm)

Good information here....so where does the GT200 fall? 6A?

I'm not that familiar with the GT200 - is it a 'big' Leader or a 'small' Quasar engine? If the former, 4A, if the latter 8A, if something else then 6A would be as good a guess as any! You'll soon know if that is an over-estimate if you find you have to begin using a battery tender.

Found this online. Looks like Jim called it right with 8 AMps. Unless I'm reading something wrong.
