Very efficient...but their crashes must be horrendous.

Love the way the bloke riding in the third picture wears the helmet, not his daughter/mum/wife.

Well I guess we can't all be gentlemen 8)

I got confused about that in Thailand until I got booked for not having a helmet on. It is law that the "driver" must wear a helmet, anyone else on the bike doesn't have to. The officer gave me a ticket then told me to ride 8km to the police station to pay the fine. I said that I couldn't because I didn't have a helmet but he insisted. I rode off, but I gave the fine paying excercice a miss..

While initially we get a good laugh and poke fun while looking those pics, the serious part of it is how poor those people are in those countries that they have to rely on transportation that way. A crash would be horrendous for them. We don't realize how lucky we are in the good old USA.

I never thought of the photos as 'funny', interesting perhaps and a little amusing in some cases though they aren't meant to poke fun at anyone.

To me, they show that different societies have different priorities than others, and that their circumstances require practical 'solutions' to everyday problems that are questionable elsewhere.

And I most certainly do realize how lucky I am to be in the United States specifically, and the developed western world generally. I guess I don't understand the apparently automatic assumption that it is otherwise.

I think Tata has a better solution for these groups. (I know it's not the most enviromentally friendly car. I didn't say it was my solution)
