Holy crap!

Makes me think twice about wearing "just jeans".

If only Corazzo would make some sort of riding pants/jeans.
I have draggin jeans, but they are hot for the summer.

Alas fall weather around the corner.

Thx eric for posting this link. good stuff.

This is not a scientific test and it was conducted by Corazzo, but you definitely get the idea.

I'm still conflicted on the d30 armor, too. Have read both good and bad about it, but not enough firsthand crash reports.

I've been wary of buying corazzo stuff, i've tried on the 5.0 and shop jacket and when i put my arms in the sleeves i feel like the pads are scraping my arms up. With my mesh fieldsheer the pads are securely in place, but the corrazo jackets seem like the pads are just floating around in there, not to mention they feel like cheap plastic. my fieldsheer mesh was only around $100.

There will always be a tradeoff in terms of style and protection. While I do think fit and other features in the more stylish jackets can be improved, the fact is that the most protective outerwear is going to be some tight-fitting, tapered Power Ranger type jacket that's exactly what we don't want. So, as with most gear, it's up to the rider to decide how much risk they want to assume in exchange for other desirable features.
Kejj wrote:
Belstaff had some good ones. I didn't see anywhere if they were armoured, are they?
Some models are, some aren't. The armored ones, for the most part, are those in the Rider collection. Others are more fashion-oriented and not really intended to offer much protection of this sort.
Kejj wrote:
To have Corazzo test the competitors is not what I cal fair play.
It sounds more as marketing strategy.
It's perfectly fair play! Anyways, as I stated, this wasn't a scientific test and the video is little more than the Corazzo gang fooling around. I believe they were just trying out producing a video with the intent of doing more serious tests later.

I understand what you're saying about independent testing, but I don't even think the larger manufacturers do anything like that. A manufacturer may pay a third party to test their products, but it would probably be very expensive and inconclusive. It may also unfortunately give buyers a false sense of security and create liability issues. Best to talk up the features and not make any specific claims as to how they'll perform in a crash or slide.

I dunno, man. I'm seriously beginning to think that style and safety are mutually exclusive when it comes to riding clothing.

I would so much rather just wear an Alpha M1A flight all the time ( and i often scoot in mine ) ... but i don't fool myself that it's safe in any way. POC Phil went down on his and it melted to his skin.

That fact alone has made me think more about wearing my Corazzo 5.0 more often. The cordurra isn't going to be melting to my skin if i go sliding down the road on it.

Is it ugly? Absolutely. The closest Corazzo has come to "cool" are their Flight jacket and Mechanic's jacket.. and neither one of them gives enough abrasion protection to warrant wearing them, IMO. ( or the $200+ price tags) Sure, they have armor...but i can buy that armor and sew it into my Alpha flight.

Armadillo? Cheap. 99% of other gear brands? You look like you just got off a crotch rocket. They call this "technical", i guess. Anytime i walk into a motorcycle gear store it's all "technical" clothing that looks like it took its styling cues from a Limp Bizkit album cover. You gotta hand it to them, though ... you might look like a robotic cyborg douchebag, but at least you'll be safe with most of it.

Style-wise it is not only a Scooter wear problem.
The majority of brand make jackets in styles "street", "Urban" and "smart casual"
Those aren't in my opinion representative stuff for business meetings.
On your free time and if your going hiking in mountains maybe.
I do like to dress up even on my free time, staying sharp.

Yes, I do know that if I fall my M65 Fishtail would probably get destroyed and if am above 50mph it will melt into me. but it gives me a sense of style and I can have a suit underneath it. Wearing protective pants is probably a great idea but com'on, that area is completely non fashionable since the material and armor destroys any chance to create anything good looking.

And about abrasion, if I fall I will exchange my full face helmet. Why wouldn't the same go for the jacket?

I doubt any brand that makes not so good looking gear, filming and posting a video on youtube taking a stab at the competitor.

Any jacket that doesn't fit perfectly will have the armor at the wrong place, try it on and send it back if the fit isn't good enough is probably the best tip.

Conclusion is that racing gear manufactures offer the best protection. The scooter manufacture brands are more or less on the same level more or less depending on the model chosen.

any of the three will do a job and you'll have to choose for yourself which one suits you the most depending of if your a true mod, a racer, a urban italian style, fashionista, business people or just want to keep warm.

Rev it makes a parka style jacket that is fairly simple and make work for you. I find myself in a similar situation as the weather grows colder and do not want to bring two jackets to work. I'm considering several of the options mentioned so far and the revit is on the list of possibles. I can remember the name of the jacket style at the moment, sorry.

I have a vanson armored mesh that fits pretty snugly, and fits well under most of my other (non-riding) jackets when it gets colder, even with some shirt under and over it if needed. Works fine over shirt and tie when I have to wear those, though it is a bit more of a pain in the ass to take off a second jacket. The fact that I walk in carrying a helmet usually explains the armor, thankfully.

Otherwise known as the Trensch.

None of the above jacket are stylish to me. They are definitely urban or streetwear'ish.

Examples:

The parka of the parkas:

To show a few.

See my earlier post above on conclusions in this subject.

Military surplus parkas are typically sized HUGE. Like, i wear an XL normally but might wear a medium or be swimming in a LARGE military parka.

So, why not just sew some knox armor in a parka? It's so bulky nobody would notice.

First off - in real life (notthe internets), I've never met someone who crashed in Corazzo and actually thought for a second thr jacket actually did anything. Armor shifts, doesn't sit right, etc. Basically, it looks tollerable and that's it.

second - Dainese has some very stylish textile blazer type jackets, some in cordura and some in, oddly, corduroy. They're lightly armored bur you can add back pads, etc. I find the fit to be good and the armor to be well placed (but minimal). They run around $260.

I use those to decrease the "power ranger" look since I work in thr financial district in San Francisco. No one can tell it's armored.

Third, don't lie Eric, we k ow you don't actually ride.

It's sad but true. I think i've done about 500 miles total this summer. Paltry.

I also only went to about half my normal amount of rallies. No Vegas, either, which should get me banned from scooterdom. I was doing 24 credit hour semesters at school, which didn't leave much time for riding.

Good thing i can be judged on my other merits versus how iron my butt is.

I have the Tucano Urbano sport jacket (it's the gray one in the center of the bottom row) and I use it when I scoot into town on city streets (no highways). It's got shoulder and elbow pads but no back protector but the cool thing is the dickey like front piece that zips off once you're off the bike, turning it into a non descript sport coat.

I know it's not perfect and I wouldn't take it on the interstate but it does have a great deal of style and a small dab of function. I ordered it from Scooter Crazy in the UK and they were great to deal with.

Now what I'd REALLY like is for Corazzo to do their version of the fishtail parka (Hey Brandon! Are you listening???)

I have a Prima armored jacket, a Fieldsheer armored jacket and a vintage Chicago police leather motorcycle jacket (with insignia patches). The latter is the coolist, but the Prima is the most comfortable, best looking and best protected. Though I suspect it falls within the Power Ranger category,,
