I broke down on the way home from work yesterday.

It felt like the bike was bogging down in low revs. I guess I rode for another 1-200m Revving it hard to keep it from stalling after that I realised that something was amiss.

My first instinct was fuel so I checked the carb on the side of the road looking to see if there were any blockages but that wasn't it.

I checked the spark and I saw one but on reflection it wasn't very strong. I tried to restart it and it tried to go for a few seconds on one occasion but that was it.

I have looked at it at home since, I have pulled the wire off that goes to the headset, no spark, my old man (electrician) has looked at the magnets under the flywheel and said everything looked fine.
he said that there is current going through the tabs off the coil but it is obviously not producing any spark.

I am a little confused because the coil looks really new, the guy that I bought it of had just had it replaced.

Any thoughts?

Is the coil just broken?

Being that the coil is new is there any other issue that could have caused premature failure?

As always thanks in advance...

Will

disconnect your kill switch circuit and make sure that's not affecting anything. Also, could be shitty wiring from your condenser to your HT coil. Check to make sure you don't have any parts where the insulation is worn away.

Solved?
Well I did what I do when I can't work out what is really going on, just pull it apart and put it back together again.
-I cleaned out the carb, as many bits as possible and washed it in petrol.
-Pulled the flywheel took out the underneath part and washed it with petrol to get off the grime that was on it.
-Pulled off the head and de-coke'd it.
-Gave it a bit of a wash on the engine casings and put a pipe in between the breather hole and the breather because the old one was just sitting in there, wrong thread?
-Drained the tank and got out some of the stuff that was floating arou nd in there.

I know that a lot of that wasn't related to my issue but seeing that the bike is Italian and undeniably temperamental so it definitely needs some attention every now and then.

It's ok now? goes great, I might take a pic of the thing under the flywheel?? It looks pretty haggis to me but it's obviously still working, perhaps just, so I won't be happy about if it decides to retire at an inconvenient time.

Two other things,
I got my flasher can from super cheap auto, it was cheap, and has consequently had a short life. Is there a special type of can I need so that it will last longer? I'm not worried just interested cos I thought that the current varies and might give it a hard time. I think it was a few bucks so I'm not fussed getting another one.

When we are working on the wiring of the lights my old man rigs up the circuit with a 12v car battery charger so we can work things out without the engine running, put one clip on the active and one on the frame. Don't know if anyone else does that but I reckon my old man is a genius. . .
