It's not scooters but it is under powered two wheeled Italian bikes.

http://www.girodcalifornia.com/

On the 4th-6th of Oct I'll be putting about 300 miles on my '55 MotoBi competing head to head with 33 other pre '58 bikes all under 175cc. I'll have my iphone for pictures and will post as I'm able.

I thought the bike was ready 4 weeks ago when disaster struck and I found I desperately needed new brakes as well as several unavailable parts. Now I've got relined shoes and new wheel bearings so it's back on the road as of today.

Don't tell anyone, but he has a half-liter of Merlot stashed in the side tool box.

That should help with hitting the checkpoints on time!

Giro Day 1
I should have left the wine in the tool kit the night before but
instead I drank it while working on my rollchart. I was hurting in the
morning and it only got worse as the morning went on. Despite that the
roads were great and I did well on timing. The bike got really hot
heading up skaggs springs road so I stopped to rejet, we were ahead of
schedule anyhow. After jetting I was running behind but I managed to
catch up just as I reached the first checkpoint. The second check
caught me by surprise and I was running 3 min late. Then at lunch I
was 15 min in late as I made a wrong turn and just didn't feel well
enough to ride faster.

After lunch I started feeling much better. 5 miles out I stopped to
get on time and there was an emergency check at 9 miles. I was two min
early but did my best slow ride to bring it down to less than one but
that was still 2 points There was long fast section after that and
I was running a bit behind but was able use a scheduled gas stop to
get back on track.

I finished the day with 22 points and I think I'm in second for the
125 class. Feeling really good this morning and learned a lot about
how the bike behaves yesterday so fingers crossed. For reference first
place in the 125 class has 17 points and first over all has 6.

Second Place, 125 class
Just got back from the awards dinner, took second place in the 125
class

I had mostly given up on wining anything as my rear brakes were
dragging most the day and I had to stop and roll it backward every now
and then. I stopped in Calistoga for some icecream and just enjoyed
the ride back. Totally thrilled that I finished and even more so that
I placed. Now it's time for grappa!

Congrats dude! Bike did good considering it was in pieces a week ago.

Yeah, go for the grappa if you really want to hurt yourself. That stuff is just paint thinner with alcohol.

The bike did really well at times. On a down hill I got it up to 55 before thinking better of it. On the flat it would do 48-50. The ergonomics are really good with the pegs right under your center of gravity. Even with all the slop in the forks and swingarm it flicks through the corners really nicely. Really looking forward to going through the frame and making it function as new. And as I can't leave anything as is I've already got plans for the engine.

Congratulations!! Glad you didn't end up on the WAgon of Shame!

Also see that that pipe didn't stay shiny...

Did non-red bikes get extra points for daring to be different? funny that so many were red. was that the only paint color they used to make?
