Here's my steed for the first part of this trip. Now, I know what you're thinking: "Hey! This is not a ride report!" Trust me, though, it is. I swear.

Somewhere on the Ventura Highway
I don't really know the area, so I'm taking the precaution of stopping
for gas long before I really need it. Traffic around LA has been
intermittently heavy, and so far I've only locked up the rear wheel
twice today. Yeehah!

Pressing on to Santa Maria, where I'll be spending the night tonight.
Tomorrow should be a more leisurely and scenic ride, and I promise to
post pictures of something other than gas stations.

Santa Maria
The last hour or so in the pitch black cold between Santa Barbara and
Santa Maria wasn't so much fun, but I made it here in one piece.
Checked into the hotel, and then made a beeline for the nearest Old
Skool steakhouse, where I am about to order a 22 pound buttsteak.

Ahhhhhhh.

You're just saying that so you don't have to be the only guy to show up at an event on a giant maxi that nobody is really sure if it qualifies as a scooter or not.

Wow, nice deal for both you and Len! Your new MP3 is a cool colour, love the yellow. How is the ride compared with the MP3 250? Big difference I bet. The off the line is still not quite the 300 Super though is it?

Santa Maria, Heading Out
The hotel staff suggested I park my bike inside the courtyard on any
concrete surface, which I happily took advantage of. The bike was safe
overnight.

Gassed up and grabbed some coffee, and ran into another touring guy
headed South on a Honda sport tourer. Had a nice ling chat with him
about Italy, speeding, radar detectors, Cannonball, and PTW in general.

Still on 101 for a bit longer, so no stunning photos yet, although the
landscape is changing as I get farther North.

Finally getting off the freeway and heading toward something more

No picture, that's why. The picture has the GPS info used for the Google Map. He needed to post a pic of the burrito or whatever for it to show up hehehe

After the Back of Beyond, I realized I was actually in a place I had
been before: the entrance to Pinnacles National Monument. I went in
and got a patch, too.

And home again. After Pinnacles, Hollister came up pretty quick and there was really nothing else to take pictures of after that. Just more highway all the way home.

Glad to be home in one piece, happy to have a new bike in the driveway, and I'm looking forward to a few mods and some long tours on this beast. In the meantime, though, I'll be pressing it into service as one of several alternatives on my 100-mile round trip commute to work.

Gracious thanks to Len for picking me up at the San Diego airport and for a nice, smooth sale. Much obliged, and I promise to put some miles on the bike!

Nope. I found gas in a little town called San Ardo. My advice, though: if you have a choice between getting gas in San Ardo or running out, just be happy pushing your bike. What a godawful place that town is.
