Late last week I was informed that a business trip I was supposed to be on this week had been postponed. So, now I had a string of work days with nothing on my calendar- the perfect excuse to take some time off and do some scooter touring.

My goal for this trip was not really sightseeing, but rather to test myself and my scooter to see how we'd hold up on a string of long distance riding days, in preparation for maybe running the Scooter Cannonball next year.

I ride a 2006 BV250, the carbureted and plastic step sister to the GTS. (Some would say the ugly step sister, but I she suits me just fine). I had just put a fresh belt and rollers on a couple hundred miles back and recently added some electrical goodies (Stebel, turn signal beeper, Datel voltmeter). Managed to install a fresh battery over the weekend before the trip. Time to see how everything will hold up.

I started off at 7:30 this morning form just southwest of Baltimore. Did a highway run on I-70 W to Frederick, then hopped on 340 to Harpers Ferry, WV. Continued on down to Front Royal and the start of Skyline Drive. Plenty of deer out, but very few tourists. I felt like I had the place to myself. Fueled up in Front Royal and had a pleasant, though slow (35 MPH) trip down the 100+ miles of Skyline Drive. A quick detour to Waynesboro, VA to gas up, then it was on to the Blue Ridge Parkway. Made it down to Roanoke, VA.

Total mileage today: 352 miles.

The bike and all my gear held up great. More on that later. Not too much time to stop and smell the roses, But I'll try and email some pics to this thread.

I was lucky enough to ride up around there with Bobovespa and teacherquinn last year. You're right - there's lots of deer. But when we were there it was cold and rainy, yet still gorgeous!

Glad you, your bike and your gear held up. Hope you continue to have good weather as you tour. Looking forward to more ride reports

Great report. I have been on much of your route and it is great riding. I'm jealous my meetings weren't cancelled this week so I could join you.

No cell coverage most of today, so I will send pics shortly.

Made it all the way down the BRP and presently in Robbinsville, NC. The ride down the BRP was mostly uneventful. In addition to the normal deer, wild turkeys, squirrels, and chipmunks, I also saw a loose cow on the road that was bigger than me and the scoot put together.

Had to make a couple of detours off the parkway; one was well marked and was due to construction. The other was not so well marked and was caused by rock slides in the area. The last 15 miles on the parkway I got stuck behind a Prius doing 30-35 MPH, but otherwise I mostly had the road to myself. Got down to Great Smokey NP and found a nice motel- each room has its own motorcycle garage! So hopefully I won't have to wipe off frost in the morning. Now to go clean my faceshield- a lot more bugs than I would have figured for November.

Total mileage today ~420 miles.

Woke up this morning and headed over to the Dragon. The road was practically deserted, so I was able to get a couple of runs in. Stopped for the obligatory t-shirt and picture of the tree of shame (none of my bike got left behind, fortunately).

My time off is growing short, so the rest of today was spent super-slabbing it to eastern NC. Currently in Rocky Mount and I'll strike out for the coast in the morning, then head north back to MD along the shore.

The BV handled the interstate okay, but it's definitely out of it's element. I cruised for the most part at 70 MPH, which was fast enough to pass a lot of cars, but the BV had nothing left beyond that. It was most obvious whenever the highway rose up a hill. But still, the bike is performing flawlessly. No issues so far- but if I decide I need more passing power, I'll have to get a bigger bike

Great write up. Looks like the weather gods were pretty good to you for this late in the season.

Did you make the Cherohala Skyway around Robbinsville?

Yes, a week's worth of gorgeous weather in November combined with my unexpected availability was very, very fortuitous.

Unfortunately, I didn't have enough time to hit the Skyway on this trip. Next time time though.

Nice ride
We went to Skline Drive ( we trailered) Labor day week with some friends. We rode Skline drive one morning then stopped for lunch at the wayside. We got our gear back on hopped on the rode and a mama bear and her three cubs crossed right in front of us, it was awesome! We couldnt get a pic we didnt have our cameras ready it all happened so quick.
there were some harleys there at the wayside we overheard the riders say they wouldnt park near us! We had a Kymco people 250 a kymco grand Vista 250 and my Vespa GT 200. I guess they thought their Harleys might get scooter cooties......
