It was gray from Tuesday through Friday, with rain coming in after dark. Everybody living in the New York Metro area waited it out, as 65 degrees F and sunny was predicted for Sunday. The day dawned warm and the last of the clouds burned off by around 10:00 a.m. Dave Scharf jumped on his '01 LX150 and tooled by. We picked up some pastries and took off up Route 9W, through Haverstraw, NY, picking our way East to the Hudson River bank, through Stony Point, Tomkin's Cove and up to Bear Mountain State Park, enjoying spectacular views from over a thousand feet above the waterline. Lots of big bikes were out, but we had the pleasure of waving at a couple of riders on Vespas as we coasted down the two lane near Lake Tiorati (one of whom was a lady in a pastel pink jacket). Beautiful soft November afternoon light, a stop at the top of Perkins drive to climb the tower for a 360 degree view, and back home. What a visceral pleasure leaning into the esses as the last of the autumn leaves blow across parkland two-lanes!

We were taking a break atop a rock outcropping atop Perkins Memorial Drive when Dave shot this. Kinda posed like "Dejeuner sur l'Herbe" by Manet (but without the naked woman).

So, if Manet were out on his Vespa that day, wearing his Corazzo jacket, would the painting have looked like this?

I hate to break it to you but Montgomery is North of Bear Mountain Park. I think you mean "Fort Montgomery".

Sorry, where I live and work causes me to ride through the town of Montgomery everyday on my way home and it's definitely not South of Bear Mountain Park.

Damn! Moved it again? No, really, thanks for the correction! I'm a bit fuzzy on town names above Stony Point... Hope you got out for the beautiful weather on Sunday... looks like it's going to stick around for a few days.

Thanks for waving! I we got a kick out of seeing some scoots as we were on our way to Bear Mountain. I was riding the Silver GTS and my girlfriend was the one in the pink jacket riding the black GT.

We actually did the oposite of your ride, started in NJ rode through 7 Lakes drive to Bear Mountain and then through Fort Montgomery over to Washingtonville.

Great ride with the exception of it getting cold as night set in.

Bear Mountain. Now that's a tough sport.

Especially if Papa Bear comes home unexpectedly.
