Okay, first let me say that I do realize that muscle cars are the antithesis of scooters. However, I do actually own a vintage Mustang (1966, same as me) and I have a soft spot for that most sought-after incarnation of the Mustang, the Shelby.

I've been wanting to add some reflective tape to my GTS for a while, and I also wanted to cover the holes where the rear reflectors used to be. I decided that I would do an interpretation of the Shelby stripes that visually distinguish a Shelby from an ordinary Mustang.

This is a picture of what Shelby stripes (aka Le Mans stripes) look like:

Here's my interpretation:

I'm also renaming my scooter: It's been called Red Shift since shortly after I got it. I'm hereby rechristening her Shelby.

Very nice, I like it a lot! That gets me thinking about doing some small details on my Fly150 again, I had shelved that idea once work got too busy....

My parents had a 1969 mustang, brand new back in the day... they sold it before I was born.... I wish they would have kept it.

I love the rear cowls !! I was also thinking about something using white reflective tape. Nothing as nice as this though!

Did you apply the vinyl yourself?

Yep. I had a place online do the cut lettering, and the rest is just hand-laid pinstriping. Had to use sudsy water to be able to shift each piece slightly as I applied it, and then squeegeed each element before doing the next.

Lookin' good! I bet you really pop at night. Others who want to do something like that should look for reflective black vinyl. That stuff looks really slick. During the day, it's pretty subdued, but at night it lights up like crazy.

I've got a classic center-stripe on my Moto Guzzi done in black reflective vinyl. That said, it doesn't "pop" quite as much as the white stuff does.

Here's a night shot (taken with flash, of course) of the new vinyl on the GTS.

No problem. Same camera, same settings. Kinda looks brown and dirty. Not as bright as the white stuff, but I suppose better than nothing.

You get an 'A', Jess. Would've been an 'A+' if the stripes in the front continued onto the front wheel fender. Razz emoticon

I'll get there eventually. I couldn't figure out how to get the fender crest off without breaking it.

D'oh! I'm a scooter short and a year late. That's the look I am going for with my scoot, only a white scoot with blue stripes. My pops works for a Ford dealership, and when one of the guys drove his to the shop, I was instantly in love.

External inline image provided by member with no explanatory text

And am trying to mimic this type scooter look to incorporate both

External inline image provided by member with no explanatory text

Needless to say, I think the scoot looks razor sharp.

The 3" round Modern Vespa stickers will be available as part of the Modern Vespa Shwag Pak that will be available (for a donation) in January. The Shwag Pak will contain a Modern Vespa embroidered patch, a 1" button, and a 3" round sticker. I'm targeting $10 as the donation amount, depending on the final cost of everything.

Not so much. I had them custom cut, so they came pre-stuck between sheets of backing, all lined up and in order. I just had to peel off one side of the backing, slap the whole thing down on a wetted surface, squeegee it a bit, and then pull the other backing off the top.

The lines were much harder, as I hand-aligned them. In person, you can see where the spacing varies a bit.

Hey Jess,

Nice looking ride, you should take off your front reflector. I took mind off and got these small buttons from the Harley shop to cover the holes.

I may do the rims - I was thinking about having them painted at the same time with the lip polished, but that was going to be lots of $$$, so I'm thinking maybe just powdercoat them in orange.

As far as the number 8, it is my understanding that #6 actually won in '69 and had that particular stripe (there were three different designs with varying orange stripes), so I'll probably go with that.

Ok I'm gonna let a bit more info on my bike go... mine has an offest double stripe on the front (black), to be combined with a number 7 in a white oval... currently being put together by an artist buddy of mine. I also have reflective chequres waiting to go on the side once the bike gets back from the repair shop V.soon.
My wheels will also be sprayed, probably black...
There said it... lol
