I decided to let the local pros install a new tire on Lucrezia. I will attempt it myself the next time. Thanks to all who responded with advice to my last post, I will be more vigilant in monitoring the tire wear in the future. The local bike shop doesn't sell Vespas, but they have an excellent service department, and are 10 minutes from my house. I plan to ride all winter, as long as the roads are dry, so I'm happy to have Lucrezia back in the garage.
I had them put on a Kenda, I think it's a K413. The guy at the shop said it was a good tire and should outlast the Pirelli. As long as I keep it properly inflated.

I'm surprised you went with a Kenda. They last a long time but are a really hard compound.
