Modern Vespa

Who said it's always sunny and warm in California. I live just north of Sacramento and it snowed last night.

We had about an inch on the lawn and on top of my truck. I am glad I got the scoot into the garage this weekend. My elevation is only 160 feet above sea level. Sacramento is only 30 feet above sea level but 100 miles inland from the coast of California.

It may not be much but it's the first snow I have seen in over 20 years.

I hope there aren't a bunch of accidents. People can't drive here when it rains. I could only imagine if there was every snow...

That's shocking to see for California, I haven't seen our first snow here yet, although it is supposed to come today.

We got a solid 2 inches here last night on the South Side of Chicago. Temperature is now 36 degrees so it all melted away.

It is now snowing in Toronto, but it doesn't look like it'll stick; too warm.

I have a friend in Sacramento and she said her kids were loving that y'all got snow. She said..."well so much for global warming lol"

reminds me of a few years back I saw snow in san bernardino, CA. completely shocked me considering that is a desert in the souther part of CA

I resemble that remark... especially since I am sending this fine message from a Rancho Cordova based business. You are just jealous you didn't get actual snow in the RC.

Funny thing about California is that we have both extremes in the same state at the same time. You can surf and snow ski on the same day, if you don't mind a cold ocean (55-60*F). As for the snow, Truckee is only about 80 miles from Sacramento and is gets a ton of snow every year. It's pretty common for Truckee to have 3-6 feet (1-3 meter) of snow on the ground at any given time during the winter.

Towns in the east bay and south bay got snow on the mts.

Heck, even the Berkeley hills got a good dusting!

None for me here at bay level -- but it's gonna get down to the 20's overnight. And the roads are wet from rain. That means possible ice on the roads people -- so BE CAREFUL !!!

We had tiny flurries of snow today but nothing has stuck to the ground. It is now raining so there will probably be ice on the roads tomorrow AM at 6 so I'll have to take the cage again despite the forecast of a high of 3 *C.

Bad, Bad Leroy Brown!

Well, we are officially dealing with the snowbirds. Today, an older gentleman with Ohio plates, just stopped dead in the middle of an intersection. People started honking, and that just made him more panicked. I could almost here the voice "help, I've stopped, and I can't get going..."

We were living in Truckee in December 1992. We got six feet of snow in one week, between Christmas and New Year's. The interstate was closed most of the week. A lot of the ski slopes were closed off and on due to wind. The tourists couldn't leave. The grocery stores ran out of food, and the gas stations ran out of gas. It made me think of the Donner Party.

Now I live a few miles east. We got 11 inches of snow since yesterday. It never got above freezing, and tomorrow's low is forecast for 10 or so.

So much for "Global Warming"...

This was at 7:42 am this morning looking east across Monterey, you can see the snow under the clouds to the left of the rooftop.

It snowed down to 1500 feet.

Neither my wife nor I rode today. First day since May that weather kept our kiesters off the saddle. Twas a bummer.

It rained all day long. The roads were a disaster.

Snow people live in snow country, Sunny and Rain people live in Southern California. I pick the Sunny times.

It's been cool (50s) and rainy in Los Angeles, but less than 80 miles north of here in the mountains there's snow.

One of the things I love about LA is that it can be in the winter it can be in the 60s or warmer and I can look out and see snow-capped peaks in the distance.

YaHooo! Bring on the Tahoe ski season - this early season is looking promising for the Sierras and Wasatch.

Well, the sun is out today and it's a lovely 25F/-4*C this morning. A light coat of frost covers everything! I may even scoot today.

I road to work today here in SoCal it was 38º @ 0530 Just for the record it was cold and I had full gear on. anyone who said they rides in jeans and jackets @ 40º I'm calling BULLSHIT on them it was cold.,

We've been in the teens here 15 F today, high in the 20s. Brutally cold on the Vespa.

Actually, snow in unexpected places is likely the cause and effect of global warming. As the Earth's surface warms, the polar ice caps melt, which is happening at an alarming rate!

The effect of the polar ice caps melting means that water levels rise in general and water temperatures cool ... globally. Cooler water temperatures lead to lower air temperatures and climates which have been fair to moderate in the past, become cooler over time.

Whether or not global warming is a man made crisis or a cyclical phenomena ... is not within my ability to determine. I am not a climatologist or even a scientist. However, when you see this &feature=related it tends to open your eyes a little to what is happening to our planet!

So yeah ... Snow in Sacremento could very well be due to global warming.

it's interesting seeing a palm tree dusted w/ snow...we are due for 3-6" tonight, a warm up w/ periods of freezing rain tomorrow, then an additional 12"+ w/ 30 mph winds on thursday...goodbye scooter season for this guy!

safe travels

I did a ride in 38° this morning up here in the lower San Fernando Valley (North Hollywood). Long sleeve t-shirt, sweater, Corazzo Tempeste jacket, scarf, jeans, tall Puma boots. My torso, neck and feet were fine, but my knees are still freezing.

Get some hand warmers from Target ($1) and tape them to your knees.

My "Lap" always got the coldest for me.... know what I mean?

Actually, by the time I left the house this morning, it was all they way up to 40*F. It was about 25*F when I took my daughter to school at 8:30, the ice in the truck bed was frozen an inch think where a tarp had made a pool of standing water overnight.

My FirstGear HT Overpants 2.0 keep my legs plenty warm. I didn't even feel the cold in my legs. I did have a cold area on my neck below my Buff and my eyebrows inside my modular helmet were a little cold from the breeze that keeps the visor clear.

I dont think id put them down there. Today I picked up my stepson from school and the temp was 50, brrr.
