Is a bodge scoot with a bodge sidecar:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260519360836&_trksid=p2759.l1259

This type of sidecar is actually fabricated by one of the vietnam bodge shops. Those two attachment bars look pretty darn flimsy to me.

Also, this is NOT a 1962 anything.

You see this? It says it was a resto from scooter-works, Florida. Who the heck are they?

Plus, what's a Piago Engine?

Sprint Frame/cowls/headset.
P glovebox, handlebar levers, and floor rail rubber.
Love the chrome trim on the cowl glovebox, tank, and the strips on the front fender.
Speedo from...wherever.
New-looking fork.
LML engine.

My guess is Indian, which tend to be better "restorations." Tho the chrome trim and incorrect P stuff scares me.

yea, something about that dose'nt look good to me

for me i'd rather see a side job done here because it just looks like it is done right to me, like it belongs

when you see these spit shined jobs imported, it just does'nt look right cruising around

i like something with oxidation on the bits somewhere

Well, the sidecar is definitely Vietnam-made. Here is the place that makes those ones:

http://www.scooter99.com/e-commerce/sidecar_making

They are very recognizable. The framing on them scares the bejesus outta me. I have a California sidecar, and the framing is about three times the size bar stock, and is not "inline" framing. I can just imagine that thing snapping off while going around a turn. Or worse, twisting the floorboards. Scary stuff.

EDIT-

Looking more at the same website, I found this:

http://www.scooter99.com/gallery/thumbnails.php?album=23

Same sidecar, same color, same chrome trim edging around the gas tank... Hmmm......

Wow, even though I'm painfully familiar with the trim on cowl gloveboxes, I think that's the first time I've seen a "trimmed" P glovebox.

What will be trimmed next? Headset underside? Bottom of cowl? I'm breathless with anticipation!

One other funny thing is, it says Zero miles on the new engine, but the speedometer says 110. Plus how can it have zero miles, but then answer questions by saying he goes 35-40 mph when both he and his wife rides on it.

I'm not trying to be funny, but isn't scooter99 a pretty good Vietnamese scooter restoration company?

No idea, but my point is that the sidecar construction looks downright scary to me. Judging from the rest of the mishmash of parts (wrong headset, P levers, etc) it doesn't look like they do a good restoration.

Yeah. You got me there. The mishmatch of parts doesn't make for a good scooter restoration. What I meant was, I never heard of anyone having issues with a scooter99 scooter or sidecar.

I have had a few Viet restos come through here. I haven't seen this one but I have seen another just like it. It looks like a Sprint and so did the one I saw before. Those sidecar rigs are new for scooter 99 and is probably why no one has heard of any problems but that is only a matter of time. The other reason is those bikes don't run worth a shit. This had a new LML engine. I had to rebuild it because it wouldn't run. Turns out the seals were glued in because they were the wrong size (the seals are not the P-series size). The crankshaft looked like it had 1,000,000 miles on it. It didn't have a small end bearing instead it had a brass bushing like the early VNB but not as well made. Their were no needle bearing in the layshaft, it had a brass bushing as well. The cruciform was homemade and so was the shift rod. The wiring was made of stereo wire (at least the parts under the tank that you couldn't see). I don't know how much bondo their was on the frame but the bike minus the sidecar weighed 278lbs. The only good Viet restos are in their own country. All the junk comes here. Indian restos are better but not by much.

yep, plain and simple, it doe'snt look right

the cross bars are too small in diameter

even if it was a local p with a good car, the "look" of this set up is weak

That's the correct headset. Non-US Sprints all had trapezoid headsets. Jus' sayin... Razz emoticon

The one I worked on had the VIN# VESPA 112233. No this is not a typo and this is not misread. The original stamping was gone and this is what was stamped in it's place. The owner was convinced this was correct and couldn't understand why I would question it. They at least got the number of digits right.

I dunno about the timing. I've seen the sidecars from them i think from at least 4 or 5 years ago.

Sidecar for GT200?highlight=scooter99

And I was wrong saying it was a vietnam resto. Its really from Indonesia
