I just discovered a crack in my transmission cover. It starts right where the kick start lever is and moves toward the front of the case for 1.5 inches. Anybody else have this problem? Any fixes other than replacing?

Did you happen to use the kickstart recently? The transmission cover is known to crack if the kickstart isn't carefully used. I believe it will need to be replaced.

Take it to a welding shop and have them tig weld the crack.
The cheap solution is buy some JBWeld. Drill some stop drill holes at each end of the crack. Grind a groove in the crack and then JBWeld the crack up. May last a while, may last forever. Just depends on the metal on the cover. Joe |

I broke mine the same way and lots of other people have. I got a price of I think $120.00 from scooterwest for a new cover. I thought about getting it repiared but by the time you get it welded for $50.00 to $75.00 with out knowing how good the repiar is. Then get it powder coated your in to it for all the money. I will be getting a new one after the holidays along with a big up grade.
Good luck Chris |

I heard about this problem right after I purchased my ET4 back in 2003. I had Massimo my Mechanic remove the shaft and all. I then went to OSH and bought a chrome snap in hole cover for 79cents and that was that. You can remove the kick start lever yourself, then when you go for your next belt replacement that is when the shaft can be removed at the same time so it shouldn't cost any extra to have it done.[/quote] Or..... You can order a cover for a 2009 Piaggio Fly 150 which is exactly the same but comes without the hole for the kickstart shaft, which is what I would do. Nice and clean looking. |

Now that is a fine idea Vezpa, I didn't have that option in 2003, but today it makes good sence. |

I wish they would make the cover so it could be used. I like to kick my scooter. To me it is the proof that it runs like a champ.

You know a good vendor to order one from. My local dealer is clueless all things Vespa even though they sell them. |
