I'm trying to pick up my first bike, pretty set on a p200. I looked at one bike, it had a decent amount of rust on the bottom which had eaten a crack through the leg shield. How bad is that?

I'm looking at this bike, something seems a bit weird about it? Or am I just crazy .

The guy is asking 2k for it which seems reasonable.

thanks,

- Ian

edit: I saw this one, just seems like a super good deal right?

Moderators should move this to not-so -modern section

Stay away from anything with bad rust, especially as your first bike. There are a lot of deals out there now if you keep looking.

No, but if he's looking at Vintage bikes and wants opinions and need info, that's where it should go because he will get more responses..

That's too funny. They could just use the search function and get thousands of threads with thousands of the same answers. Seems like the most common subject on this board.

That looks like a nice P200 with some great accessories for $2K.

I think it's a pretty fair price if it runs and drives well.

Looks nice, as Jeremy says it's probably a solid deal if it runs well

I agree - that is a nice looking P200,
but that god-awful 80's windshield has to go!

$2000 is a good price if it runs as good as it looks.

It would be worth it if I didn't see the rust on the floorboards, next to the cable channel. If that's rusting through, you're gonna need to clean it up, get the rust out, weld some new stuff in under the floorboards.
Unless the rust is too bad, which it very well might be. Then it's a structural problem. Can you get some better pictures of the floorboard rust?

Oh, and I'd keep the 80's windscreen. I think it looks wicked sick.

Egads: that windscreen just made me throw up in my mouth a little....

Looks like a batwing or something... In terms of aesthetics I think it lends too much focus to the front of the scoot. I've got no problem with windscreens, but that one looks like on of the wee dinosaurs from one of the Jurassic Park films that extended a collar just before it attacked...

Just my $0.02

Cheers,
phaetn

Have you seen this bike in person? That could simply be oil or dirt on the floorboard - that is typically where dirt and oil collects on the P200e.

Yes, that looks like the typical grime that accumulates on the floorboard. That scooter looks to be in fantastic shape.

It looks solid. I'd be surprised if a bike in condition like that had holes through the floorboards in that spot alone. That area will develop rust because of the dirt getting scuffed around by your feet and around the centerstand and brake pedal bolts, but I betcha, having not seen it myself mind you, that you only have surface rust there if anything.

This is, again, simply based on how well the rest of the scoot seems to have been treated. Only you can really say, from seeing it in person. Mine was treated like dirt and even then there were no holes through the floorboard or anything, just some surface rust.
