Hi All
a friend of mine in NYC wants to store his GTS in a building that will NOT allow him to have gas in his scoot. Can he drain the tank and then run it dry? Will it get rust over the winter or are these tanks plastic? What other problems can he expect?
Thanks
Curt

The tanks is plastic so he need not worry about rust in the tank. I don't think he needs to worry about the fuel injection system, but I'm not sure.

Best to drain the tank only but not run it dry. Running dry is a strain on the fuel pump. There's a warning against it in the owners manual.
The only issue I can think of is condensation in the tank, which wouldn't be an issue indoors where the temps won't swing so much.

After draining the tank I would put just a bit of fuel stabilizer in the tank, just to fill the hose to the fuel pump and intake. It will keep the rubber parts from drying out.

Add stabil to the gas and run the engine before you drain the gas and run the engine dry. I store all 4 of my bikes in my basement.

jimc posted a comment on keeping the fuel pump covered....haven't read that from Piaggio myself, but he's usually quite reliable. (I check his posting time to see how it relates to pub closing. Razz emoticon )

I do this with a pressure washer and store it for 4-6 months at a time and it starts every time. (I don't need a pressure washer much but buying it and having it is chaeper than renting one when I do need it.)

the stuff works good in lawn mowers over the winter also. In addition to the seldom used chain saws and weed eaters and other gas powered equipment you might have.
