When you have a client coming into the store, and the first thing out of their mouth is...

"I really don't understand why people would buy a scooter over a motorcycle!"
He owns a Goldwing...

Now, he is a nice guy and all.. but man.... first client of the day at 9:15am..... it pumped me up!!!

For that matter, why would anyone want a Goldwing when you could just buy a car?

My guess is that he needs to take a test ride on a scooter or get on as a loaner during his next oil change on his Wingabago. I have read hundreds of stories about big bike riders falling in scooter love after one ride.

That's almost as bad as buying a scooter that is so big it looks like a motorcycle. Why not just get a motorcycle?

Why did he even walk in? Those people are annoying, especially if they aren't even willing to see the other side of things.

Well I should have mentioned that he had his VW in for an oil change next door (we are part of a VW dealership), and was curious... but still... he should have stayed next door..

Why would you own a motorcycle over a scooter?

And why are you here today?

Have you ever owned anything other than a goldwing?

Bet I can beat you off the line with one.

So are you trading today?

Can I get you preapproved for a loan sir?

Thought about it, but did not want to waste my time...
He was a nice guy, but not ready yet to turn to the dark side.
He seemed almost surprised when I told him that most of my clients have both scooters and motorcycles.
He did like the fact that the engine is much more accessible than his GW.

Alex,

I wouldn't be too surprised if some of your comments don't sink in and he starts doing a little online research and asking his riding buddies about them and finds he has friends who scoot or are scoot-friendly. He may be back one nice weekend.

Have Fun!

"Like you?"

"And be like you?" or "And be just like you."

"Yes, it's obvious." Or "That's obvious."

"So you do you profess ignorance all day long or just to the first poor, trapped soul you meet?"

"Where is that violin?"

"Hope springs eternal."

"No ones perfect."

"Garbage in, gargabe out."

"Awareness is a losing battle for some people, no?"

"How damp is the underside of that rock?"

I am quite confident that there is NOTHING that at least one Wingabago rider hasn't added to their "RV" at one point of time or another. These "bikes" have 1800 cc engines and are used as tow trucks all over the world.

Personally, I never really got the motorcycle thing.
I've always been in love with look & style of Italian scooters, then one day I finally broke down and got myself a Vespa.
Mods always seemed so much cooler than Rockers. lol

Which 'motorcycle' would you suggest? They range from sub 100cc's tiddlers to 1200+ lb, Chevy V8 powered behemoths.

For some reason, 'scooters' must be limited in size and displacement but 'motorcycles' can be any size and freely overlap into the scooter ranges, but not the other way around.

As a 650 Burgman owner, I get to take crap from both sides of the argument.

A buddy of mine rides a Suzuki Velusia 800cc. I followed him on a great ride up to the Croton Resevior. After 1.5 hours of riding which included 20 minute on the Saw Mill River Parkway he said "I still don't get it with your Vespa but you can sure keep up". He looks at my bike like I am from a different planet. Perhaps we are....

The original name for that particular Suzuki model was 'Delusia' rather than the present 'Volusia' because most of the buyers had the mistaken belief that the bike was fast. I'm not surprised that the larger Vespas can tag right along with it on highways. Their hp/weight ratio may not be all that much greater than the scooters.

Oh brother. LOL Because I WANT to ride a scooter, not a motor cycle and I need a big one to ride on the interstate. Duh.

And don't it just twist your gut when a guy will look at a gal's scooter and say, "I bet my wife would like that." And he's sitting on a Harley or something. Sheeeese.

That "dashboard" is lacking an analogue speedometer! Or will that be projected onto the windscreen or as a hologram? Laughing emoticon
