I am considering the purchase of the Corbin seat for the MP3 400 but am a little leery about the seat sensor issue. My main concern is disassembly of the stock seat in the even that I ever want to put it back on (trade-in or resale for instance...)

has anyone purchased an additional seat sensor to add to an aftermarket seat? If so, please share where. I did a Google search on "seat sensor Piaggio MP3" and got very little. The one site that showed up was athensscooterco.com, but they do not list the individual sensor as an available part.

Thank you kindly in advance for your suggestions and advice...

you won't find one in the aftermarket world. The sensor is a dealer only item and since Athens scooter is a dealer you could order one from them or just go to your local dealer and order one.

Yep, you have to buy the whole seat for close to $300

I was afraid that might be the case... That just doesn't seem to make sense to me... what if the sensor sent belly up on the stock seat, would one have to purchase an entire new seat to get it corrected...? I guess I will call my dealer on Tuesday to see what advice they have to offer...

With all that I have heard about the MP3 seat being so uncomfortable. Is it fair for me to assume that they just use the old sensor with the new seat. This may seem like a simple question but this is all new to me.

Yes, they just take the sensor out of the old seat. This is a big reason to go to a shop that understands the seat sensor.

I love my Corbin custom seat!!
I had my new Corbin seat put on my '09 MP3 400 a couple of weeks ago...and boy, am I loving it!! Comfortable!! IMHO, the original seat is like setting astride a telephone pole!!!! OUCH!!! It is fitted to my height, weight and inseam....and I now find that instead of being up on the balls of my feet at a stoplight, I am now able to comfortably flat foot it!!

The seat sensor is a thin flexible printed circuit board with two sensors built into it.

It was easy to switch out the original seat with the Corbin, following Corbin's instructions, found online in a pdf on their website at: http://www.corbin.com/piaggio/install_p-mp3.pdf

The only hitch is that we had to install a couple of extra washers as spacers on the rear of the seat, where it locks into the body to get it to lock correctly.

Merry Xmas,
Bill

The only hitch is that we had to install a couple of extra washers as spacers on the rear of the seat, where it locks into the body to get it to lock correctly, due to the seat being new and still stiff. The seals around the seat have lost some of their newness = stiffness since then.
