Help
I have a 2006 GTS 250 with less than 1000 miles on it in perfect shape.... just had it to the dealership for a new Voltage Regulator and oil change. Break in service was done as required, and fluids have been flushed by time....

Was out riding after work today, all systems go, when under power.... she just died! I had a sudden loss of power... one last gasp when I gave her throttle, then the big red light came on the dash, and nothing.... headlight and turn signal worked, so I could get off the road safely....
I turned off the key, and just sat there stunned!

I tried to see if it would start, but when I turned the key on, the red light came on and NOTHING! Wow! I wasn't sure what to do other than call AAA and get towed home... so I sat there for few minutes contemplating my options.
After about 5 minutes, I tried again, and it started up this time, no red light, no yellow Voltage light. Mmmmm...
I rode home, nervously, but without incident. Until I got in front of my house and then the engine died again. Whew!
Ok, coasting into the driveway, I turned off the key, but WTF?

Any thoughts from anyone out there? I figure I have a couple more days of an extended warranty that I bought when I bought the scooter, so it's getting loaded on the Versahaul in the morning and will be carted off to the dealership.
But for future reference, if I'm stranded on the side of the road, it sure would be nice to know, what the heck is going on!
Thanks!

Same thing happened to me. It was a loose spark plug wire. I pushed the wire back into the spark plug and all was well (watch your hands, the engine is hot!). I hear this is quite common on Vespa GTS's.

check the fuses, first...

after that, hook it up to the diagnostic as see what's going down.

best,

Got it, thanks! I was stuck in a dark place tonight, but will do in the morning. Didn't even think of fuses, since it did start up and ran fine (for another 3 miles) until it died again. I didn't see anything unusual in the engine when I got it home.

Thanks all!

If a fuse is blown, wouldn't that preclude the engine starting after a while?

Have the dealer check the wiring harness, why did they have to change the voltage regulator?

I was riding home and the scoot would loose power when I went over 45mph, when I got off he freeway and pulled into a gas station, the scoot died, it would turn over but not start. After towing it home, the next moring it started right up, but as soon as I took if off the stand it would stall. Took it to the dealer and they couldnt find it, took it home the next day the scoot ran for a few miles, I parked it, came out of the house and went to start it and the harness fried, lots of smoke. The warranty covered it, including a new battery(which was fried as well), the dealer never knew why it fried but thank god for the extended warranty.

Good Luck

Vespa Sherman Oaks to the Rescue!
I Versa-Hauled it up to Sherman Oaks today, Thanks Dave and Lynda for being open! Drew Teague was even there. He checked the spark plug connection, fuses, etc... alll seemed normal. He will hook it up to check it out out to the computer faults and see what's up. Maybe a fuel pump?
Of course it started right up when I got there..... LOL!

Good thing I have spare scooters! I hate being without my GTS! Crying or Very sad emoticon
Thanks for the good advice, I may take a wrenching class, I did NOT like being stranded on the side of the road!
