hey all, i recently found a 1974 sprint with a trap headlamp that need a home (previous owner was my friend dad that his son eyes is blind when it come to see a vespa) , my question is wheter the trap head are oem (is there any sprint produce with such style) or some people just put it there replacing the round head due to look younger back in 1970's and one more thing, is there any significant different between sprint veloce (round head) and sprint with the trap head in the frame or inside the engine, i already have sprint v round head but never touch a trap head sprint before so i am curious.. please help

thanks and cheer

I believe 1969-1979 the Sprint V had the 3rd transfer port and round headlamp.

From 1965-1974 the Sprint for the Euro market had the trap headlamp and the American market had the round headlamp due to the required sealed beam.

here's the pic
thanks for the reply mate, here is the pic of the trap sprint that arrive last nite in my house for truth pic look good but i will find out more when i reach home in tommorow nite so i can only cross my fingers.. i am pretty sure its not a bodge as the previous owner buy it straight from showroom back in 1974, and from the story that sprint is sleeping for over 10+ years outside the garage Crying or Very sad emoticon i'll check the vin in x-mas nite to make sure Razz emoticon

once again its for free as my friend dad like to see what i've done to my vbb so he think i will take a good care of the sprint better then his son, i hear that his son demolution the engine a.k.a destroy it thats why the engine cant start

anyway please gave me a comment or advice about what should i do with this sprint (pic look potential)

ps: is it worth it to spend money in this sprint (repaint and engine build) or should i just let it the way it is

That paint isn't OG..nor is the black trim paint around the headlamp and front suspension. Do get rid of that white rubber..looks cheap. Take it apart..clean it up..and do it right. It will be a nice project for you...take your time

agreed.

if the paint is nice enough, i would just deal with the engine work and whatever else that is mechanically wrong right now. mechanics before aesthetics.

it looks pretty nice to me, but that legshield trim is fugly.

thanks guys, lucky or not it come in a bad situation of finance Crying or Very sad emoticon and i agree with u all that white rubber will be gone and also the legshield trim and many other things that not seem right once i get my hand on that sprint, for this project i will take my time and wont be too hasitate as the money issue once again (i hasnt took a breath after the red px)

for a few months a head i will stay with the paint although i know it come in silver but blue will be nice and i am planning to make it as a duplicate of my sprint v Razz emoticon

tonite i will be heading home for x-mas so i will post u all more pics about the sprint, i really hope it didnt damage too much in the engine so i dont have to spend money to start the engine and hit the road

one more question what is the vin code for a trap sprint 1974, i am curious to see does the vin indicate its supposed to be round head or its actually a trap head

many thanks guys and merry x-mas to u all, wish u all have a wonderfull holiday and GBU

cheer

hey all, i am back with the trap sprint update, i finally get my hand on the bike here is the condition

bad thing
- cranked engine barrel
- missing the gas nosel
- rusty gas tank
- twisted frame chasis

good thing
- after i put my old engine barrel from my round sprint (i am sorry nino, guess i never can bring the engine barrel to ur place Crying or Very sad emoticon ) and clean the gas tank + put a new gas filter and gas nosel, it run perfectly in first attemp kickstart
- and the twisted body are done repairing with no rust at all in the frame so i can save my money to repaint it Razz emoticon
- all the cable and the electrition run great

one more thing delight me its actually a sprint v with 3 port so all i have to do is find the round head and i will have a twins Clown emoticon

here is the latest pics of the sprint among all other vespa at my house, hope u all like it

cheer everyone

nino, i am confused with this sprint, vin said its VLB1 both in engine and frame so it supposed to be similar with my sprint v and the engine barrel are the same it have 3 port engine as well as veloce, should i change the headlamp to round or just leave it as it trap, i look and look at this sprint and something seem not right, or i just have a complex with the trap head, please inlight me

thanks and happy new year bro
