Here's some more images of our Vespa Summer down under for you to look at while the snows falling. This is Petes on his PX riding down the mountain to the Hawksbury River Bridge.
We are a loose group of riders called SYDNEY: WE RIDE COZ WE CAN. Every Sunday we take our scooters and bikes for a 300+k run around the countryside outside of Sydney. The road bikes behind are a group we ride with sometimes called the Girls Ride Out. We always prefer the back roads with the best twisties.
Pete rides a mighty Vespa PX200 . He rides hard and generally keeps pace with the bigger machines especially through the tight corners . We believe that Scooters make great tourers. Our most adventurous run so far has been down to the Australian Alps last month. 2000ks in 4 days.

Hi Pete. Yes, that must be the best ride in Sydney! I live nearby, and I do it about twice a week when I visit "cupcake-in-the-Sky" and stop for a cappucino and cupcake. PITS is a major meeting place for motorcyclists, but I am usually the only scooterist there. I noticed PITS on the left right at the start of your video.

The downhill ride is a bit limiting because the cliff is next to you, and you can't see around some of the bends and have to slow down. I prefer the uphill ride, which is double-highway, on the side away from the cliffs, and you can really lean the scoot into all those slalom bends! 80kph to 100kph all the way! Beautiful!

Mike, I shot some footage up the other side but we got stuck behind some cars and didn't get a fast run. Youre right about it being a great road especially since they reopened the section thru to Gosford. The biggest danger on this road is meeting some sports bikes who really cane it thru these corners. Sometimes it is like being on a race track. Do you ride with the Sydney scooter club?

Yes, Pete, I ride with the Sydney City Scooter Club, but have missed the last few monthly rides. But I have never attended the Tuesday night gatherings. Too far for me, and besides I go dancing on Wednesday nights and have chess club Thursday nights!

Have also ridden with the Central Coast crowd once.

In the new year I hope to be riding with the newly-formed VespaRiders club too.

Haven't done the Pacific Highway run over the Hawkesburg and on to Gosford yet. Only used the freeway, which I find a bit nerve-wracking.

Forget the Freeway. The Old Pacific is supurb up to Somersby? I went to one of the Vespa Riders Club meetings and they need some classics to balance the numbers. Im sure well bump into eachother before too long. Merry Xmas. Pete.

Mike's been riding Modern Vespas for, is it 40 or 50 years? The Classic is Mike, not his Vespa!

Thanks for that, Brad. Nice to be appreciated. It was 50 years last September.

For those who don't understand Brad's comment, I have previously raged against the modern/vintage controversy by pointing out that every Vespa I have owned has been the top model available at the time. So at the time, each one was a modern Vespa. I have never owned a vintage model.

But I agree, Peter. It would be nice to see some geared Vespa riders taking part in the VespaRiders club. Maybe once we start having rides next month.

Punto and T5bitsa69, you'll have to come pay us a visit and we'll take a run down the old road.

Do you find much problem with gum leaves and twigs on the road considering it goes right through the bush?

I have been thinking of taking the old GT on a right proper trip somewhere, I might end up coming to Sydney later in the year when it is cooler and going for a ride with you.

After a storm leafs and sticks can be a hazard but lots of bikes use these roads and so the tarmac is generally pretty clean. Some times you can get them along the centre of the road but only once in 2 years has the road been treacherous and that was after a hail storm. Would love to show you some of our favourite roads when you come down.

Are you planning on going to the national scooter rally in stanthorpe this year?

My partner and I are going, so if you are too, we could meet up.

What a great video and that looked like a fun ride! I love the sound of that motor! Thank you for not mucking up that video with bad music. Clap emoticon
