Call me crazy, or whatever you want, I'm sure you will anyway. To the point. I used to love Mallomars as a kid. And one day not too long ago I treated myself to a box. I knew when I opened it I was to be disappointed. The color of the chocolate was not like a dark chocolate, but more of a Hershey brown. The texture and flavor was off, the marshmallow was fair, and the cookie bottom seemed different. Why do they change recipes and mess with good things? Then, the other day at our local Fresh Market, I saw a box of Whippets (by Dare in Montreal, Quebec). They looked like Mallomars, so I gave them a try. Rejoice! I think they're better than I remember Mallomars ever having been. The chocolate is smooth, with a nice crispness; the marshmallow is light, fluffy, and sweet; the cookie was also light and tasty.

It's still very good scooter weather here, but I still found time to relay this important find.

So if you remember the days when Mallomars were really good, and are disappointed with them today, try to find some Whippets.

(I warned you in advance that this had nothing to do with scooters, so don't give me a hard time about writing about cookies. )

Me too. I was thinking the whippet got into the mallomars.

I never liked mallomars when I was a kid.

I would like to try a mallomar or similar made with homemade marshmallow and cookies covered with a nice dark chocolate. I don't care for the packaged ones. They are OK but I would rather wait for better.

I wonder if they have them over at the Whole Earth store... hmmm.

Ooooooh, crap! I just saw these at our local market and thought they looked good, but I didn't pick them up! I'll have to make an excuse to go get wine or something and get a box or two for the holidays.

Believe it or not, this has been a topic of discussion in my household. My wife is a big fan of the Mallomars. She much prefers their chocolate to cookie to marshmallow ratios to those of Pinwheels.

The Whippets appear to heavily favor a heap of marshmallow with a thin layer of chocolate.

Nothing beats a Tim Tam slam.
BTW...New Zealand invented this, not Australia.
and the two guys on this video are beginners.
You have to eat the whole Tim Tam just as the hot coffee causes the cookie to collapse.

I had good friends from Sydney visit last year. They introduced me to Tim Tam's. I am now a Tim Tam Slam self proclaimed master! The problem is once I open a package.....I don't finish until they all disappear!

+1 for Pinwheels. I like that the chocolate is a little thicker and not too much mellow.

I love Pinwheels! Any combination of chocolate and marshmallows is good!

Hooray for Pinwheels. I 2nd those votes for Nabisco Pinwheels. The best store bought cookie available. They can be hard to find though. I always give a few boxes to my Dad for Christmas too. They are addicting and I think MUCH better than Whippets or Mallows.

We have this stuff at my work "nitrous oxide "

I had a female dalmation who opened 2 sealed boxs of chocolate covered cherries and neatly picked them out. She barely chewed the corner open. Oh they were on top of a washer at the time in a plastic shopping bag.
She had a belly ache for most of the night but never got sick per say. I called the vet when we got home and discovered the incident and he said if she lives till morning it will be a miricale. She has loved chocolate ever sense.
