In the mid-late '80s, I was precisely the type of poncey New Wave kid who was very much into these guys. My interest in them had waned quite a bit by the time Music for the Masses came out. IMHO, it remains their best album-one of the best of the decade. That's saying a lot because almost all of the rest of their stuff pretty much makes me cringe now. "People are People" indeed. What a brilliant insight!

Anton Corbijn directed all the videos for this album and they actually all work together quite well. I think he's way past his prime as a photographer though deserves recognition for pioneering band photography in which most band members are discouraged from looking at the camera or each other and are not allowed to smile and in which Bono must be shot in profile as often as possible.

You'll notice that This video is in many ways, a continuation from Never Let me Down, as he is stranded on the side of the road when his Messerschmitt KR200 Kabinenroller breaks down.

Listenability-wise, I think DM has held up pretty well over 20+ years, though its been ages since I listened to them deliberately, let alone bought any of their music.
