I was looking in the new updated manual, http://manuals.wotmeworry.org.uk/Piaggio%20MP3/MP3%20400/ page 37, attempting to work out how to check the rear hub oil level on my 400 and found this:

"Remove the dipstick and check that the oil level is slightly over the second notch starting from the lower end; if the level is below the MAX mark, it needs to be filled up with the right amount of hub oil.
-Screw up the oil dipstick again and make sure it is locked properly into place."

Can anyone please advise which "notch" is the second one and which is the lower end? I would assume that lower is furthest from the handle but that doesn't match up with the picture.

Also, isn't the "max" mark normally lower than the "min" mark?

Or is it me?
IS IT ME?!
IS IT ME?!

How could maximum be less than minimum? The max mark has to be above the min mark if inserting the dipstick from the top of the reservoir - which obviously has to be done to measure the fluid level. Other than that, the text is 'clearly confusing'... The intent I'm sure is that the oil level be between the min and max levels, or 'slightly' more than the minimum mark, when the dipstick is screwed into place.

We call it irony. Laughing emoticon I meant the opposite of what I said. We English do that to keep the rest of the world on its toes.

The picture of the dipstick comes direct from the manual. Any ideas which are the correct marks as the text "clearly" says "second" but the max and min marks (obviously the other way around) only work if you count from the handle down towards the end that is in the oil.

Has anyone put exactly the correct amount of oil - 250ml (?), in the hub and then seen where it comes to on the dipstick?

Still confused - clearly.

yes I have done the hub oil change . and to answer your question yes 250cc is the amount to pour in, then always check you dip stick to just ensure it falls within the marks. if it falss in leave it alone if it is right at the min mark carefully add 25 cc (its not much) no more. take it for a spin around the block, put the scoot back to level and check for a final time and should be on the money.. Hint... when I changed mine after removing the drain plug and 95 % of the oil out I did lean the scoot to ensure I got 99% out and let it sit that way for 10 minutes and just drip. but thats me being a little OCD.

yes it is because it is GL-4 or above rated.
I use belray because it is a GL-5 and is readily avaible at a local m/c shop.
