I just went for a cold ride the other day (never do rainy rides) and saw mist in the odometer. The GT has only got 12000km.
Any suggestions ?
Rubber button not sealing right ?

It may sound stupid but covering the dash at night and when not using it will help prevent this. I know people with motorcycles and the same problem. They put a good towel rag over them at night.

I had an old BMW whose instrument pod used to develop the mist. I put a shower cap from a motel room over it and it worked like a champ. Some "friends" started replacing the plain plastic shower cap with floral design, then net covered ones, then some with artificial flowers attached. Who knew there were such things?
If you want to get the moisture out try setting it in the sun, or shining a hot light on it. Just be sure to hold the light far enough back so that you don't melt or warp the plastic. You just want to warm the pod. |

As GTdespatchcourier says, they all do that in the cold. I rode on Christmas Eve and the odometer was completely obscured by moisture.
Five days later and it looks as good as new. One of those Vespa "quirks". |

After washing my BV200, I have the same problem, after hours, mist gone. I think the seal is not tight enough to keep water from getting inside. It is not good it gets to much mist inside, later on, the parts will get rust and damage.

You just need to understand the concept of relative humidity to appreciate why this happens. Unless the instrument cluster is hermetically sealed with very low-humidity air inside at manufacture (and it isn't), the air inside the cover plate will eventually reach equilibrium with the relative humidity of the ambient air outside.
Say, for example, the scooter sat under a cover during a few warm summer rainy or dewy nights where the relative humidity approached 100%. The air inside the cluster will approach that humidity as well, even if no liquid water leaks in. Follow this with a cold front where the temperature drops 20 degrees, and -- voila! -- the relative humidity inside the cluster tries to climb above 100%, and moisture condenses out on the inside of the relatively cool cover. If the sun subsequently bakes the uncovered headset, the relative humidity inside the cluster drops, and the mist evaporates harmlessly. Mist inside an instrument cluster or light assembly doesn't necessarily mean it is leaking liquid water. Even if the clear plastic cover over the instrument cluster is completely watertight, there is likely enough air leakage through the back of the assembly -- inside the headset -- to allow the humidity of the enclosed air to vary and cause mist to occasionally form under similar conditions to those described above.

Silver Streak, thankx for the excellent reply. I know it´s like that. Anyway, this type of stuff should have more quality. Other scoots and bikes go around the whole year without problems. I just think the Italians should have a better quality in some things.

Re: GT200 Odometer with mist
Mine has progressed from mist to actual water pooling inside the instrument cluster after being parked in heavy rain.

Yep.This type of things and others, in the old days, came by parts. Now for companies profits sake you buy the whole thing.

Alas nothing is made as good as it used to be Even if you kept it in a heated garage with a dehumidifier you still would get the mist when ever it cooled down you would still get the mist i think. In fact what i just wrote would probably make it worse
