I have a couple of quick questions:

1) How complicated and how much time does it take to have the valve clearance set on the 12K mile tune-up on my MP3 400? (Seems like I remember my Vespa dealer saying it was really important at that point, because it assured that the fuel was ignited at exactly the right time to give the most energy. I think I remember him saying that the engine had to be taken apart to adjust them, that's why I was wondering how long to expect it to take for this adjustment.)

2) What is the spark plug gap for the NGK Iridium CR7EIX 7385 replacement plug recommended for the MP3 400 in another thread recently?

Thanks,

bill

You can't gap an Iridium plug. If you try, you'll likely snap the tip off. This is one advantage to an Iridium plug.. the gap should never close.

To adjust the valves all the plastic starting at the front has to come off. About a 5 hour job taking plastic off and putting it back on, about 5-15 mins to adjust valves.

The mechanic at my dealer did it removing the plastic from the back going forward. Saved some time but was tricky getting center piece back over the fuel spout without removing the leg shield. Had to pry the spout forward to get it on. I think he took about 2 hours (did other work at sawe time) but of course he has done it a few times. At 18,000 miles he did a minor adjustment to one valve.

I gapped my NGK iridium plug, cautiously, and it did not snap. The gap had grown to larger than the recommended 0.7 - 0.8 mm. The ground electrode had worn off.
