So, with the new MV patches now available, I was wondering how folks wear/display their patches.
On your armored jackets? On a vest or sash? On a shirt or non-armored jacket? On sleeve, front, or back?
When attending a rally in warm/hot weather like Amerivespa 2010 in San Antonio, I don't think I'd want to be wearing my armored mesh jacket all the time, so I was wondering about other options.
Photos would be welcome.

Well, I admit I don't wear my armoured jacket on the island ... it's just too bloody hot. But I do plan to take my jacket with me to Italy this year and I am going to sew my patches on it and wear them proudly throughout Italy. I also wear it when I ride in Toronto.

The stickers and Patches
I will be mounting the stickers on Magnet sheet. The cut them out and stick the large one on my Cage in the back. The patches will be going on my Denim Riding Jacket.
I have a quilt lady across the street that sews the patches on for me. My Scooter Tag patch will be going on soon too.

I actually made a joke elsewhere about making a sash for my patches-just like a Girl Scout!

I had mine poorly sewn onto my Corazzo Max, but that's been replaced by new Corrazos I don't want to screw up with patches. So I may do a separate patch jacket (I have some old shop jackets that would work) or possibly put them all on a canvas Timbuk 2 bag I have.

No sewing for me this time. I'm using fabric glue!

Errr... well, here's the thing. I tried fabric glue. Several times. I now have some jackets with some really ugly gunk spots on them where the patches used to be. You're welcome to try, but I'm personally never going to attempt that again.

I was planning on sewing the patch on my mesh jacket and putting the sticker on the Vespa. I'll probably mount the sticker on a magnetic sheet like erich51 mentioned.

I bought a Fieldsheer jacket that I though would be a perfect backdrop for patches. I just need to remove 3 small brand logos. They are were I want to put patches.

Crud. Well time to break out the needle and thread again. Last time, I only got blood on one of the patches!

I dropped my jacket and patches into a professional seamstress. We had a great chat about Vespas and she sewed my last patch on for a tenner (USD$7). 8)

Try using a thimble. It helps push the needle through the tough fabric.

A thimble is absolutely key if you're doing it yourself

And patches are cool:

That's what I do. Given the constraints of the armor and the inner liner, she actually disassembles the jacket, sews the patches to the outside layer using a sewing machine, and then reassembles the whole jacket. It's so good, you can't even tell which seams are factory and which seams were done by the seamstress.

I have all my patches hand sewn by me onto a jean jacket,
I'll wear the jean jacket at scooter club social functions.

Thinking of getting some "under armour" so I can wear the jean jacket by
itself on my scooter, But in most cases I just wear the jean jacket under
my Cortech armoured jacket.

I'm in a quandry; I can't decide what to do with my little collection of patches, soon to grow by 3 more. I also got the GT patch in my xmas stocking.

Maybe someone can post pictures showing examples? I don't want to look like a doofus, and I don't like pain enough to sew them to my bum.

I don't have enough to sport this look

Please forgive the nerdly pictures of me

They are easy to sew to traditional mesh:

I had a tougher time with my newer mesh jacket,
since I didn't use the mesh part & had to remove the lettering first

The toughest was my old winter jacket, because the fabric was ridiculously impermeable
I tried ironing it on 1st, but that was a disaster
I nearly ruined both the jacket & the patch in the process

I finally used a sturdy metal thimble
(I tried to use a plastic thimble in an earlier attempt & nearly punched a hole through it),
I also found I needed very bright light and a strong, sharp needle

And I put this turtle one on the outside of the upper arm
on that jacket

I didn't put patches on my leather jacket and don't plan to

So where are pictures of the patches that I know the rest of you wear, hmmm?

I will be mounting the stickers on Magnet sheet. The cut them out and stick the large one on my Cage in the back. The patches will be going on my Denim Riding Jacket.
That's an awesome idea! I never thought about that before. I am going out today to buy some magnet sheet and do the same.

You could also Velcro your patches. Then you could swap them out for new ones whenever you like.

Great idea, but also a lot more work

It's just as tough to sew the velcro onto a jacket, as it is to sew on the patch itself
It's also hard (to impossible) to sew the plastic-backed patches anywhere but near the edge

So when I tire of my current patch placement
or I want to move my patches to a new jacket,
I just use a seam ripper (carefully)

When my ol' lady and I bought the LX150 (which is hers, I just ride it more than she does) I got her a messenger bag with various Vespa related pathces on it. So from that, I say affix them patches to a messenger bag or for the ladies with a lot of "stuff" that they "need", a mess-in-her-bag.

Good luck with your decision.
