My trip from Orlando to Apollo Beach on Tampa Bay to see the manatees at the Tampa Electric Manatee Viewing Center on 1/31/10 with the Scooter Crew.
My trip began at 5:51 AM; Odometer: 6023
Rode to Einstein Bros. Bagels for some breakfast and to meet up with the Orlando riders.
After filling up on bagels and coffee we departed at 7:15 and headed to Winter Haven to meet up with more of the group. One of the riders had an oil leak due to a loose dip stick, but we arrived in Winter Haven right on time at 9:15.
From Winter Haven, we rode on over to Apollo Beach to the TECO Big Bend Power Plant and Manatee Viewing Center.
The manatees gather in the warm discharge canal water in the wintertime.
The bumps in the water are manatees.
The water nearest the discharge was 86 degrees. The air temperature was in the 50's.
The canal and surrounding area has become a Federal Sanctuary to help protect the manatees and other wildlife.
Little Blue Heron
Tampa Bay Estuary
Big Bend Power Plant

Some of the Crew and me.
After seeing the manatees, we all rode over to Circles Waterfront Dining for some much needed food and refreshment.
After lunch and hanging out for a little bit we headed back home. The Orlando group split off from the Winter Haven riders on the way out.
I arrived back home at 7:17 PM; Odometer: 6268. Round trip miles = 245.
