So-- the Vespa dealer service schedules on line say that failure to have service done on schedule will invalidate the warranty.

Is this strictly applied? Ahem; asking hypothetically, of course...

if your dealer is cool...

it shouldn't be an issue, hypothetically of course.

how late are you?

thanks, Beale (& Larry, for the PM'd reassurance). I'm about to find the nerve to call my dealer, mea culpa in hand---

the strictness of application depends mostly on the nature of the repair and the attitude of the customer.

if you roll 1700mi on your first and bring in your bike with some rod knock it's game over.

if you're at 900mi i'll just ding ya for some extra coin because it's gonna take me longer to go over the bike.

but the flip side is just the same. if you've got 40mi on your bike in the last 6 months then your carb rebuild and a new battery aren't gonna be covered under warranty. remember, non use is abuse too.

ahem, this is all hypothetically speaking, of course.

best,

What needs doing..?

TBH, the dealer gets paid to fix it anyway, so I doubt they'll refuse to do it under warranty as they'll just bill Piaggio instead of you (I would imagine)

Thnx, greasy. I'm the very picture of contrition -- and a regular customer @ the dealership to boot-- even got filmed in a TV spot for them 8)

more like the latter than the former-- and it's been on the road on a regular basis. No apparent problems. I'm thinking the requisite oil/filter change and gear oil change should do it.

Actually, if we send in the warranty parts, and they test out neglected or abused, or if there needs to be a warranty repair, and the bike has no service history, our warranty claims will be denied.

So, then the customer has the bike back, and not only won't we get paid for doing the warranty claim, but we can be charged administrative fees.

so, its not a "dealer gets paid no matter what" scenario.

Update: All's well!
Just rode the ET4 home from the dealership in the winter drizzle, warm & toasty under my Termoscud-- and freshly tuned up. Everything mechanical was in order, & my man Sean was ever so gentile in overlooking the fact that the first service was done, er, a little late--

While I was waiting to drop off my scoot, a riding friend who'd had another ET4 arrived on a new ride-- the Piaggio BV 500: very nice! The speedo gauge tops out at 120 mph-- He demurely said he was still in the break-in period

Vespa Portland's still waiting on the 250s---

Glad to hear all was ok, and that the dealer was cool. I really like the BV500. I may just have to get me one of those soon, Beale.

I've also seen one of those BV500s at my dealer...I haven't had the opportunity to ride one, but wow...they look pretty cool. The one at our dealer actually has hard saddlebags color matched to the bike...with a 3 digit combination lock built right in. I'll bet those things really get up and move.
