Modern Vespa

Call out for anyone in the Midlands area of the UK interested in organising a ride out with me. No-one I know in my near area owns a 125cc vespa or above so I need someone to go on a trip with!

I know Dunk has tried to arrange a couple of Midlands meets previous. I think alot of MV'ers are in the south-east, so you don't see the majority of us. If you can arrange a date and a meeting place. I will make a trip to the Midlands to meet with you guys. I will go post on the Donk thread to see if the Donkei Skok guys are interested.

i'll keep an eye on this thread too. a nice long ride to meet more UKMVers sounds like a great idea.

It's probably gonna be a few weeks away as my A level exams end on the 28th may.... So anytime after then tbh

On the 13th June there's a ride from Birmingham to Stratford which I'll be going on if anyone else is free.

Just a thought , but how about picking somewhere inbetween London and the Midlands and having a couple of rides to meet up there?

Erm..well.

I thought we could first meet in Redditch which is halfway between Coventry (me) and Kidderminster (Dunk). The best place in Redditch really is the "Arrow Valley Country Park". Great place for us to park up the scoots, say hello, and get on our way to where ever we decide.

So it's basically a ride from Redditch to (fill this space).

As long as it's less than 500 miles in a day I'm in. OK, I'll do 800 miles on the GP800, but that's not a Vespa...

Hi Lloyd you might be interested in the "Beat the bikers" Event which runs in august. The ride ends up in Matlock in Derbyshire and it is a great day out. I would estimate that there must have been a couple of thousand scooters at the event.I normaly start the journey alone but within 5 miles you are riding with some sort of convoy.Please check out youtube where you will find lots of videos and pictures of the event.There used to be a great scooter scene in coventry where I have been many times. I used a dealer there for parts it was called Holbrooks but has since gone.Good luck Lloyd and Regards from South Derbyshire.

As above, was just about to post this up too......Matlock, derby, ....is almoist a cert.......most clubs go....Camp, or B+B, etc.......or just the day..
ill be coming over with how scooter alliance club.....the lasc.....
there will be loads of auto scoots there i expect......and almost to many scoots + people to really find everyone, etc......But if any auto owners or the uk gtsowners club are on here , ..Just say a pub, or area where one can poss find you, and lets see what happens on the day.....There are only a couple of autos in my club.....But as the melton, some derby, and surrounding areas normally pop along, it can end up with a fair few...ok...

we're looking at 11a.m at the Arrow Valley Country Park in Redditch (I was meant to say the park was in Redditch!) If everyone's OK with that we'll stick to it.

After then we can move onto Stratford-upon-Avon, if every-ones good with that on the day. Some lovely back roads deep in the country with some superb pubs and places to see.

Looking forward to it now Can you guys leave a comment on whether you can make it or not need to get an idea of numbers now.

I have never really been on a long ride and the most done in a day is 70 miles, so bit of a novice really! would be great to meet some of you hard core scooter boys.

I agree if anyone in London is getting twitchy about the extra miles we'll meet at Stratford. Good idea mate.

Unfortunately I'm busy that weekend and can't make it.

I suggest for a first meet up you start with one for just the Midlands people , and then later in the year try and organise something with the London people and pick a venue half way between the two.

Also busy - as it's a Bank Holiday weekend, more than likely people will have other commitments (I'm going down to Dorset to see my mum).

enjoy but I do see what you mean... We'll plan it for another time and make sure everyone is available. Tbf a few people have said they were available on this thread then ducked out. Ahh well I think it's just impossible to get a proper group together unless it's a proper "organisation" ride.

I don't think thats strictly true matey, I know I showed interest in this thread and have certainly not pulled out. I am just waiting to see who is or is not available. Genie and Alice never confirmed they would come but did post their interest, dates permitting. Genie and the other Skoks have had the Greek Rallies organized for months. Dunk showed interest and as yet has not pulled as did Jim, Zoidburg simply stated that date was unavailable for him.

Be patient, it will come together. Most of us MV'ers are happy to ride the miles for a meet up. It is just the logistics of finding a free weekend for everyone.

Suggest a whole bunch of dates and then see what happens.

I wasn't having a dig mate, just explaining what's happened with the date I first arranged. I should've probably added "ducked out due to other arrangements" or something along those lines...

Anyways, Me and Dunk are up for a little practice run on the 30th it seems in preparation for the charity ride / camping e.t.c. I'm looking at organising in the Summer. But you don't know about that yet hehe More info on that at a later date... BTW sorry Dunk I haven't automatically included you in that yet, promise

No worries Lloyd. Just offering a little advice on patience. Organising anything via a forum (or any group for that matter) can be frustrating to say the least. Democracy sucks.

Gonna be a long shot but....
My friends in Newquay did a Vespa run from Porth to Paris and travelled on the Channel Tunnel so basically went straight across the South. There was six of them all with Vespa's, think the majority had ET's and S's but a couple of GT's (was in 2008 so I couldn't go, wasn't old enough for CBT).

There pictures and stories sounded awesome and I wanted to do a ride out like that last Summer but just simply couldn't get the numbers together!

I think it could be done relatively easily. Camping gear, essentials, multiple maps and iPhones, patience and quite a few signing up.
Us midlands lot could meet the Londoners at set place and carry onto France. Would be quite an experience... it's not impossible at all. A guy in my sixth form, Abhi, did a charity bicycle ride from Coventry to Paris including 3 of his mates and he did it on a Raleigh Chopper would you believe!

A hell of a lot of organisation is needed and I'll be up to it after exams. But keep it in the back of your mind guys and give me some pointers
