Modern Vespa

Vespy (named by my wife) has arrived!

Just as I was wondering how much of my day (I was given as 12-4 window) I'd have to sit around waiting for the freight guy, he showed up a few minutes before noon. Awesome!

It took a bit of wrestling to get the box/crate off the truck, but it went well enough. The driver helped me remove the box and lift the bike off the pallet, then waited around til I started it up and confirmed that everything was working. Everything was perfect and I sent him on his way.

If anyone in the Boston area could use an LX-sized crate, give me a shout in the next day or two. If it's still here by the weekend, I'm calling the Got Junk guys to come get it.

David, thanks for a great deal and a very pleasant transaction. I've got a feeling that this won't be the last scooter we get from you. Though I think either a Bonneville or the new Multistrada will be next...

Thanks, guys. Just picked up my wife from work, brought her home and showed her around the scoot. It's raining hard, unfortunately, so the first ride will have to wait til tomorrow.

Gotta take it for a state inspection. Can't wait to get back to Florida where there's no such silliness. Just other silliness!

I just got back from my first ride on our new addition. Handling is very quick and took some getting acclimated, but I ended the ride (about 16 miles) more comfortable than I started. Practice, practice, practice. It's been over fifteen years since I was on two wheels with any regularity, though I did retake the MSF course four years ago. So, I'm taking it slowly and carefully. As a flight instructor and new race car driver, I know it's all about currency and proficiency. That started today.

I'm definitely resisting the urge to buff out all the smudges and fingerprints. So far...

Yes, the smoke from the fire made it down to Boston. We were downtown for lunch on Monday and it was really thick as we walked around the Common.

how come you didnt go to your local dealer?

I contacted the ten (or so) closest dealers, as well as writing directly to Vespa USA on both Facebook & Twitter. The model/color combination was nearly impossible to find. The way it was explained to me, it was a matter of relatively few of these particular scoots in the US thus far, plus the effect of the Vespa dealer system of allocations. My local dealer was unable to simply order one for me, as his rep couldn't get it for him.

I'm sure David could shed some more light on the various issues involved, but I'm very satisfied with how things turned out. Wish I hadn't had to pay for shipping, or wait for the freight, but that's in the past now, right?
