I missed last years SF scooter rally and now it looks like Vintage Scooters
only. Is there anyone here that is upset at not being allowed to ride in
their rally with a Modern Vespa? I am PISSED...

SF Rally
kdemas wrote:

When I first was invited to go ride with the Black Sheep scooter club
the Rally was called King's Classic Scooter Rally( 2004) and all scooters were welcome.
I went for 5 years in a row until 2009 when I didn't go anywhere but
local rides. I started my Apparel Sportswear Company in 2009,
I looked up the SF Rally and found out that it's Vintage
Only this year and apparently by coincidence it was Vintage only
last year also. I really enjoy riding around the SF hills and will
miss doing for so yet another year. Crying or Very sad emoticon

I make a conscious choice NOT to attend so-called "vintage only" rallies. A vintage *show* would be one thing, but to tell someone that they can't attend an event at all because of what kind of scooter they ride, I won't have anything to do with them. There's no good reason to exclude good people like that. I'd much rather ride my vintage bike to a rally where everyone is welcome and that kind of discrimination doesn't exist. I love both modern and vintage scooters, and if a group is going to be so closed minded to exclude the largest and fastest growing segment of the scooter community, then F'em, they'll have to do without my money, support and participation.

Why did you "bump" the thread? It's live and near the top of the page...

I agree with Bagel that a "vintage only" attitude is pretty lame - although since it was called the "classic scooter rally" I would have seen such a move coming

I am still waiting for the RAM MOUNT for my Vespa, this Ram Mount will
hold my GPS Garmin 265wt. and in this way I can punch an address to Vacaville
and cruise on up there or any other destination. And about the Scooter
Club idea, tried it and no takers, Orange Coast Scooter Club of Huntington
Beach. Perhaps I should start a GAY Scooter Club other then Squeam in
my area. did I say GAY ROFL emoticon

The 2004 King's Classic in San Francisco was the finest rally I've ever attended. Every type of scooter was represented and everyone (including the bystanders) seemed to have a blast.

Sure if it floats your boat do it. on the GPS they work good when your lost and you would be best reading a site like http://www.pashnit.com/ to map out a ride. using gps only to get to the starting point of your ride. Talk to RobynS she is the Leader of the LB scoter group. they meet at Long Beach Vespa.

Try this club they seem to welcome people every week

Hang with QSC San Francisco - 6/2

Bagel, you always have the best eloquent responses. +1.

I do not attend vintage-only rides unless it's to poke angry people with sharp sticks. **KIDDING**

In all bare-naked honesty...I have known too many people who start modern and then go vintage, and vintage noobs who go modern. Publicly posted rallies that are not club-exclusive mock that very fact.
There are just not enough riders and fans in the SF community to support this kind of 1950's era segregation. Being asked to leave a rally because my bike is too "new" makes me feel like I am judged solely on my appearance (firehoses, anyone?), and not the camaraderie. It creates a dearth, and is always a beast to explain to new community members.
Although, it *could* be that nobody wants to be embarassed on their own ride when Lambroken becomes the theme and all the modern bikes outpace the ride leaders...

But unless you want to put the rally together yourself, you have to follow the creators rules.

Like Bagel, I say f'em. Instead, I think you should join us Bastards on our Rally just a liiiitle bit north of SF. We will not judge...Bastards are all about the kinship and the ride. Two wheels or three, grab your keys, put on that helmet and get your ass out one there!

There it is. Someone else is holding a rally with specific limitations on who may attend. Like it or not, that's the way it is. Instead of being "PISSED" find another opportunity that includes what you ride.

I must say I am also one who likes rallies that have no limitations on who can attend. But if it's someone's wish to be exclusive it then becomes a total waste of energy to put any thought into it whatsoever.

And I'm in complete agreement, which might come as a surprise to people. It's their rally, they can do whatever they want and make whatever rules they want. I'm disappointed with the change, but so be it. Time to move on.
