Just got back from France and had a great time as usual. As many of you already know, Paris is to scooters and motorcycles as Ford 150s and Honda Civics are to "Anytown, U.S.A.". So, photos of scooters might be pretty mundane to Parisians, but for a guy from the States who's into them, they're obviously more.

Anyway, I'm putting together a more robust online gallery but was anxious to share some scooter porn.

Here's a preview.

Beautiful pics, great depth & contrast. What'd you use to shoot?

Thanks. The only difficulty with photography in Paris is finding enough time to shoot everything you want to. Scooters are everywhere so that's an easy subject.

Sony Cybershot DSC-F717. A little "old" by digital camera standards. It came out in 2002. The newest (2 models later) is light years beyond this. The F717 has a great lense (Carl Zeis) and is generally easy to get around feature-wise, but "only" has 5 megapixal resolution. Performance-wise, it's probably somewhere between a very good point-and-shoot and a digital SLR -- a big stretch, but it works fine.

It's a great photo. But you're right -- the scooter itself is way over the top.

I agree completely, but thought it was SO bizzare that I had to take a picture.

Actually, you'd be surprised how many times I saw scooters with similar moster shields just like that one. Better yet, I saw quite a few of those scooters with full windshield and roofs. Now THOSE I find even stranger -- like someone straddling a giant metal and plastic donut. But considering the weather they get in Paris, it's probably pretty practical -- albeit fugly as all heck.
