Got my Stebel TM80/1 (Blazer high tone) installed in about fifteen minutes. A couple of minor challenges were encountered, but no showstoppers. I should say that these data pertain to the 2011 LX150ie. Having never seen first-hand the interior fittings of any other year or model Vespa, YMMV...

The stock horn was mounted to a tapped bracket and bolted to the fitting above it, which was also the mounting point for what appeared to be a relay. A 10mm gearwrench did the trick and the stock horn came right out.

The Stebel took a bit of turning and jiggling before I realized that it would only fit in one orientation. That is, with the trumpet facing the left side of the bike.

I bent one of the brackets supplied with the Stebel to mate with the tapped fitting in the bike (the one with the relay mounted on top) and bolted the other end to the threaded stub on the back of the horn. A 13mm wrench was the right fit here. I got the whole assembly into the bike with a minimum of jiggling, attached the two wire leads and test hooted the new horn. Loud!!

I repurposed the 10mm nut that held the stock horn to its bracket to attach the new Stebel/bracket assembly to the tapped fitting on the bike. A bit of masking tape around my index finger to hold the nut in place under the bracket worked fine while ratcheting the gearwrench to snug things up.

Another test hoot to see that all was well, and I got everything buttoned up. No stress at all. I realized too late that pics of the process would have been great. Mea culpa. Next time!

Well done. Lets hope you rarely have to use it.
Most peeps on here go for the Stebel Nautilus. Any reason you chose the other model?

Thanks for the tip. I just did this myself.

I'm a bit confused about the actual horn itself though.

My package was just a bit different than the one in this thread:

Guide to Installing a Stebel TM80/1 horn on a GTS 250/300

My package says 113db and doesn't say highway blaster, but the front of the horn says TM80 and looks very much like the TM80/1 on the Stebel website.

It's definitely louder than the stock horn and much more car like, but did I not get the right one?

Mostly because I didn't want to start taking my brand-new scooter apart to run the wire & relay back to the battery. I know it's irrational, but there you go.

I'm definitely pleased with the volume of the new horn. That ought to get the idiot cagers' attention!

My AutoZone had the one from the previous article (the one I bought) hanging right next to the one you bought. I checked the part numbers to certain.

I must have bought the wrong one, wouldn't be the first time.

I bought the only one they had. I'll have to check again in a few weeks. Should be even easier to swap out now.

I also bought a magnum but I can't make it fit. Is my lx125ie different? It has a rubber sheet behind the existing horn. This is attached to a metal bracket. It's this bracket that eats into the space available, there's not much left. I'm a newbie here. I will attempt to post some photos.
Now it is just possible to get the horncover back on with the screw just protruding into the grille. But surely this isn't what others have done. Or should I try to remove the bracket and rubber? But it must be there for a good reason?

Thanks for any advice.

Stebel Nautilus air horn
Below are some pics of the Stebel Natilus air horn...dual tone...very loud.

It comes as a single unit with horn and an air compressor (has air vanes that twirl around at high speed that drive air to the horn piece). Need to make sure the compressor sits no more than 15 degrees off vertical to allow wind vanes to spin properly.

The Stebel can be separated and "split" installed if space is an issue (we used a split install in my wife's Honda Metro)...or you can install as is...one piece.

There is a Wolo Bad Boy (pictured) that looks like the Stebel...but they modified their unit and it cannot be separated for a split install anymore.

Will also include some information on the wiring with the relay...since this causes some confusion at times.

If you decide to install the Stebel Nautilus (very loud unit)...please test with caution...it will cause pets to run and hide...wife to wonder if you lost your mind...neighbors to look at you with contempt (or was that the wife?)

Hope this helps!

Well I don't wish to sound ungracious since you've put such a lot of time and effort into your reply, but you've completely missed my point. I don't even have enough room for a magnum let alone a nautilus. Are you saying that you simply removed the rubber sheet and bracket?

For your consideration, I installed a Stebel on my GTV and split it. The horn part was ziptied to the horn bracket, the compressor is located behind the left kneepad. Link.

Again thanks but I'm hoping someone with an lx125/150ie will chime in with something relevant to my particular problem, nice though GTs and GTVs are. Sigh emoticon

Now we're getting somewhere. If only someone that does have the rubber sheet and has installed the magnum on an lx would enter the discussion. Sigh emoticon

Stebel install on a newer LX 150 ie
I have the same problem with NO ROOM for the Stebel horn on the LX 150 ie.

Piaggio has implemented a metal bracket that extends forward to hold what looks like a deflection shield for bugs and water to protect electronic parts. I have spent hours trying to get that horn in there and have had no success.

This thick rubber flap is below the Vespa oem horn and is attached to the protruding bracket, so it is the bracket that is preventing the fitment of the Stebel.

Again this install is related to the "newer" 2011 Lx 150 ie. Has anyone been successful? I was thinging of separating the horn (black plastic) from the compressor (silver metal) and doing the install, but the horn itself is too big due to the changes mentioned above. Wha? emoticon

I will look, but the bracket is welded to the steering column I think and is about 3-4 inches across and 5-6 from top to bottom.

This is a smaller (TM 80 Stebel) horn than the Nautilis that I have.
