Only riden it 580 km and now it will not start. Noticed it smelled a little "burnt plastic" after a small trip yesterday. Today a noticible smell of gas when i tried to start it. I do not understand motors but could this be something to do with the "ride by wire"?

My dealer told me it could be the key but tried both keys and no luck.
As far as my understanding goes are not these modern engines just supposed to start? If not go to the shop with it.

If anybody has a simple solution i would appreciate it.

Its pooring down in Oslo so i am not to sad, just a little bit......

Well you are in Europe so no evap system. Next thing to check is the sparkplug connector. Is the cap seated on the plug, and is the wire screwed fully home into the connector. Gas smell and not running sounds like ignition. Also does your immobiliser LED flash once and go out when you turn the key?

Thx for quick response.

I checked the sparkplug and looked ok to my. Do not know what the connector is but everything looked fine.
The LED flash also worked as it should do.

Tried once again to fire it up and it went upto 1000 rpm before stopping.

Any other things a novice could try?

For a new scoot, sounds like the dealer did not do a good pre check for you. Possibly a loose connector? Keep the ignition key seperate from any other keys. Just having one other key on the same ring can mess up the signal to ignition. Problems I have had, and learned the slow way, still carry three keys from all the hassle in the past. Seperarting the ingnition key solo solved all my past problems of starting. But your issue is no ignition. Also you can not raise the rpm unless seat sensor is working and on the seat, if tilt lock is on.

I have a kind of ignition but i think maybe this a tuning problem?

This scoot is going back to the shop first thing monday morning if not
anybody has quick fix.

I also thought the 300 engine was a steady tried out engine.
Shows what i know!

The smell of burning plastic might mean an problem with the wiring... and that might be the reason why it's not starting. The smell of gas could be because it's not starting, just pumping fuel though the engine.

The 300 is a proven engine design. Sometimes there are problems because of assembly, not in the engine but in the scooter itself, which is my guess. Something has been rubbing somewhere causing a wiring problem. That's just a wild guess though...

It should go back to the dealer. With such low mileage it is undoubtedly a warranty repair.

Just for the heck of it i tried once again to start the scooter. It started and rpm went upto 3000 for a while before going back to normal. This must be a tuning problem? Its going back to the shop anyway tomorrow. Can not be trusted like it is now.

Hope it works out and hope it's nothing serious, as it has been shown that the importer / sellers have very limited knowledge about these scooters.

Have mine in the Motor Port of Drammen now with broken remote transmitter to the seat / storage lock and idling problems. Was told today that they refused to take this complaint / warranty as this was not covered by the importer or supplier

Well the scoot is now in the shop and i am awaiting feedback from them. My brother also bought this model and he called me yesterday saying he having problems starting when the engine was hot.

Like i posted earlier i think this is a tuning problem with this new model. With this modern engines are they not just supposed to start? If not take them to the shop as i am not an expert on engines and certainly not on these ones with all the electronics inside.

Hope i did not do an mistake buying the new model.

The 300 is simply a 250 engine with a bigger piston and cylinder. It is a proven design and is very reliable. Because that engine and transmission is exactly the same as is used in the Vespa GTS 300 scooters you may want to ask if anyone else is having the same starting problems over in the General Discussion area.

My brother went to the shop with his scooter with the same problems. By chance he met Piaggios boss in Norway. He told my brother this: To start the engine turn the key - wait for minimum 5-6 sekonds - press start button and nothing else.

All the sencors and stuff need time to get ready or else the engine will get
flooded with gas and wont start.

My shop did not find anything wrong and i will get it back tomorrow.
Will certainly try this!
