Got your attention, huh?

I have a bee in my bonnet about engine oil. I did a google and the number one hit was Anyone else running their vespa on car oil?.

This, however, left me more confused than when I began. .

I tried a wiki/search here but only found some great advice on how to change it - not how to buy it.

The Manual says SELENIA HI Scooter 4 Tech Engine oil, but a poster in the above-quoted thread said it is not available in the US. Someone else said "Do not use Mobil One" because of it's passage through the filter.

It seems opinions on this are like armpits - everyone has a couple.

So where does that leave me?

The only commonly-available brand I recognized was Valvolene Synpower 5W40.

Maybe I had better just call the dealer and ask.

What sayest you all?

I use Red Line 5W/40 meets all the specs. It's very good oil. Royal Purple is my second choice.

any oil that meets the spec will work. I'd say tho only use 100% fully synthetic oil 5w-40 any brand will do. but I hear good things about the rotella oil from every site I visit. I use M1 and Redline.

Can one mix oils in the engine? Top up with a different brand or manufacturer?

If it is bad to mix them, then should one flush the old oil completely before changing brands?

as long as you don't change the weight it would be fine. you can mix Syn with Dino and still be ok. the other thing to know is you can get 5k miles out of an pil change. I run all my cars and bikes to 5k with no problems at all. you can read more about oil on the Bob is theoil guy fourm
