Hey all
Does anyone know of a scooter rental vendor in Key West. I'd like to rent something other than the Chinese junk many places offer.
Thanks

Actually when I was there a year and a half ago, Honda Metropolitans seemed to be the dominant species.

If you can, bring your own helmet to Scooter Heaven....
You can haggle with them on the price...lots of competition renting out scoots there....Check out multiple days deals....Have a credit card too.... Show them a picture of your own scooter, so they know you are an experienced rider..it doesn't hurt, since most renters never rode one before......and you will get a non-ragged one, I bet.... Scooters can not be taken off island, even to Stock Island...I heard...too many disappeared lately! Ask! Check with your insurance company and see if you are covered renting one....could save you some insurance bucks...... Watch out for people, cars and other scoots, a lot of streets in old town are crowded with traffic....some streets are narrow, but with the highest hill on the island, is 17 feet and the speed limit is mostly 25, a 50cc is enough power.... for a 2 mile by 6 mile island..... Free parking in some alleys along Duval Street, is popular with the local workers, make sure there are other scoots parked there, too....Might be hard to find, but better than a metered or resident spot..... Last thing, is do not ride drunk, the city cops are all over the place....popping people for DWI's, walk, or take a taxi back to your hotel... |

I have spent a lot of time in Key West but have never rented any transportation because usually I am there to Duval Crawl . I get to where ever I am staying, park the truck, and either walk or use a taxi to get around. It is such a small place and there really aren't any good riding roads (fun twisties) to make it worth it to me to rent a scooter.
If you really want to have your own transportation there maybe consider one of these. http://amscooterskeywest.com/elec.html or a bicycle. Here is some more info on getting around in Key West http://www.keywest.com/trans.html ...hope you have fun. |

Renting scooters is a must in Key West. They are all 50cc, so you can't take them off the island, but there is free scooter parking everywhere so you never have a problem parking.
I usually rent from Tropical Rentals - 1300 Duval St (the south end) http://bellsouthpwp.net/t/r/troprent/prod02.htm |

Ah, so it Was a Razz I was on! Thanks Witch.....I've wondered what the heck I was on when I was there.... 8) My neighbor had a honda spree in his drive the other week.....selling it. Wonder if he still has it
Watch for guys in Key West giving rides on three wheeled bicycles (like taxi's in NY with meters) they can rip ya off going just a few blocks! Just a warning. It was fun though! ⚠️ Last edited by SkyMiZeR on UTC; edited 1 time

We rented a 50cc 2stroke Kymco from Moped Hospital when we were there last year. It did fine around the island with the wife and me on it. We've begun bicycling since then, and if we were going there again now, we'd probably do bicycles instead.

Thanks to all the recommendations
I'm back from Key Weird and am soooooo happy to be back on my Vespa. I rented a Kymco from Moped Hospital. Reasonable but what a crap bike and very unstable 2-up. Tropical rentals had newer Yamaha Zumas, again not even close to the Vespa. I rode a friend Hyoseng (sp?). What a cheap POS. KW is an amazingly scooter friendly town, tons of parking, very little scooter theft. It was a great time but my liver doesn't think so. |
