I have been looking for a rear rack to mount my Vespa Topcase onto my 300 Super, via an other solution than the GTS250 'folding' rack construction.

I want to be able to easily detach the case...
AND
I want a slim looking rack when case not fitted...

Recently I came across this one and it looks just wat I need!
Very much a chrome version from the GT style fitting.
It looks genuine Vespa and not too expensive too!

Any experiences?

No experience with that one, but someone in my club did get a Faco one I believe and it never looked that sturdy to me. It make the topcase look like it was falling off the scooter as it angled down and away from the bike. Cat is the one who had that on her Super 250, she eventually got a Vespa rack.

Thanks Benito for the info.

I have had an eye on the Faco rack, it is in back order since March.
This one however, looks like an original Piaggio item based on the dimensions from the former integrated GT style rear rack.

As it looks promissing, I will give it a try anyway 8)

GIVI SR131 Rack
That is looking a bit like the FACO rack, though more sturdy looking.
But these will require an adapter to fit the Vespa box anyway...

How will that rack help to make the case easily detachable?

With an handmade adapter kind of thingy (to be determined)
At least it does look slim out of the box

But that is why I favour the 'new' Vespa rear rack instead of the FACO
It has clamps for the topcase and likely 1 (central) screw to mount...

It is meant to be used with the genuine Vespa topcase.
Used to have that on my former GTS250 too, just for the design.
I have it re-keyed for the ease of use.

I have bought the rack mentioned above. Although it is meant to carry a LX topcase (!!strange!!) on a 300 Super, a GTS topcase fits nicely too.
It takes 3 screws to detach the topcase in a 'blink of an eye'
Without the case attached it is a slim looking rear rack!

i have it on my LX and it works perfect. i take the top case on and off often and the standard rack that came with the case was pretty annoying...

good to know it works for GTS as well, i wont need to buy another when i have a GTS

Is this alternative rear rack actually easier to take off / put on the top case?

Thats kind of what I'm going for as well. Seems the OEM GTS 300 top case rack / connection hardware for the Vespa top case is almost an afterthought.

Despite the top case having these built in notches (one in back and two towards front) the standard rear rack doesn't seem to take advantage of them at all and instead requires you to mount this little black plastic "clip" that the top case then screws into. I had to look at another Super 300 I saw parked last night just to figure out how it all goes together because it is not intuitive at all.

The rack is designed to fit a smaller LX topcase on to the GTS300. I don't know why the came up with that idea, but that's what it it is...
With the LX case the mount/demount is easy by simply screwing out the centre screw and unclamping the box in one go.

I use it with the genuine GTS case, this makes a close fit like the LX case, but not 100%. That is why I had to make minor adjustments.
Leaves me with 3 screws to detach AND a much slimmer looking rack when the case is detached.

Indeed, the original GTS250 style mounting with the additional plastic clamp around the folding rack is sturdy but a laugh...Piaggio should make a rack lik the one above to 100% fit the GTS top case

GTS super top box and rack
Sakkerju, that's a neat solution. Are you running a GTS box or a GTS Super box on that rack? Are the GTS box and the GTS Super box identical from a fitment point of view? i.e. are they just different cosmetically? I would like to use that style rack on my Super with a Super box. Thanks for any advice you can offer....

Both GTS250 and 300Super cases are identical. Except for the backrest cushion, those fit with each of the seats
The rack is in fact for the LX case, but it does fit with a little tweaking and the case is easy to (de)install.

I am also using the front two holes with a self made clamp as additional support. Just in case when I am riding with a passenger.

I just bought the OEM Vespa GTS 300 Super white top box from site sponsor AF1 Racing: http://www.af1racing.com/store/Scripts/prodView.asp?idProduct=31896

The top box no longer has reflectors on the back.

This is the rack I bought. AF1 Racing's page (link above) states that this Vespa Chrome Mounting Rack part no. 657081 is required to mount this case.

External inline image provided by member with no explanatory text

When the parts arrived, it was obvious when offering up the case to the rack that the OEM case does not mount directly to this rack without modifications to the case. It seems that by grinding away two of the molded plastic bosses that surround two mounting holes, the case will slip into the two front grooves on the rack, but the case's center mounting hole doesn't line up exactly with the threaded mounting hole on the rack. Is one mounting bolt going to be sufficient to mount the topcase without it wobbling around?

Has anyone else used this combination of OEM GTS topcase and fixed rear mounting rack without making up any additional mounting brackets?

I have that set-up...
Well, I cannot yet call it a set-up because I have not put in on yet.
I have dry mounted it several times and took measurements and thought about how to make it work better.

I have the earliest version of that rack (same maker I think), purchased through SIP about 4 years ago, and I have a '09 top case. I think the description you gave is correct for mine too: The main mounting points are a bit vague, and the main attachment bolt doesn't line up, which is really fracking lame.

I think the secret to that mounting will be to fit stout rubber pads where you can to limit movement and rubbing, and to have one helluva center bolt. I don't know if I will use more bolts or not. One seems like a bad number.
It is sorta mickeymouse.
