I'll be honest... I've been a little lax in servicing my Fly over the past few months. The oil has been changed and I needed a new back tire, but I haven't done any of the other stuff since I bought it.

So, off to VSO I go. Belt, rollers, oil, spark plug, and a valve adjustment later (not to mention a newly emptied wallet) I've got a scooter that runs like a champ!

Before: Sluggish on takeoff, sputters while idling.
After: Quick on takeoff, quick acceleration, no longer feel the need to crank throttle wide open every time I start moving.

So, thanks to Drew I feel like I'm riding a brand new scooter. Sadly, it doesn't change the fact that I want to upgrade.

I'm gonna run it wide open tomorrow. I'll let you know how that works out. Apparently I'm at the point where I'm hitting the rev limiter.

Sweet! That's a great feeling, isn't it? My 300 just hit 12,000 miles last week, and I'm having the valves adjusted first time on Thursday. I've done the rest of the service so far, aside from a new spark plug which I still need to pick up. It seems to run quite a bit smoother after everything else, but I'm really looking forward to getting the valves adjusted. I can hear them getting all clackity and I feel like the engine has lost some oomph over time, so I can imagine that the adjustment will make a significant difference.

After taking it out for an extended run (the 5.5 odd miles between the shop and home was just a sampler) I must say that my scooter is wound tighter than a *insert some statement here* !!!!!

35-40 can be done with ease AND without having to gun it from a stop. Somewhere between 1/3-1/2 throttle is all it takes.

Acceleration is quick, and if I give it more throttle it responds in kind.

I took the Fly on that short stretch of Burbank Blvd. that's 50MPH and I was indicating 60 at 1/2-3/4 throttle. I couldn't go faster because of traffic.

I think I'm ready to ride with the big boys next weekend..
