Which one? a cotton one like the shop jacket?

I have a 5.0, no way you can stain that sort of fabric, it is pretty impervious

+1

My Postale jacket outer shell is 100% nylon and as such pretty stain resistant. Guess it depends on which jacket and what the Scotchgard instructions say about that material...?

Best,

Mark

I was wondering the same thing but using the stuff you get at the outdoor store. Gortex type of waterproofing. I am a sailor and now and then I need to re-waterproof my breathable Musto foul weather gear for the boat. Pretty easy to do. Just made sure it was clean (washed with woolite) and hung dry, I just spray it down totally soaking it. Kinda let it dry just a bit then throw it in the dryer (supposedly sets the waterproof liquid). It seems the same technique would work with the Corazzo 5.0 minus the protective pads. I am sure it wouldn't be 100% waterproof but enough to bounce off the most of the rain would be quite handy.
As soon as my jacket gets here, I will do this and see if it works.

Scotchguard isn't going to turn a jacket that isn't waterproof into one that is. To be truly waterproof, a jacket has to have wide, snug flaps overlapping the zippers and taped seams.

I am personally not looking to be 100% water proof, but enough to not be super soaked with the summer east coast down poors we get here in Annapolis. I want just enough water proof to repel the most while getting to somewhere dry.

I use Nikwax products (TX direct, IIRC, and something else I can't remember the name of).

They work in the washing m/c. Product 1 washes the gear, and then you run another cycle with product 2, which proofs it. You can then even give it a quick tumble dry.

It's worked very well on my 5+ yr old Belstaff textile (mainly Cordura) kit, which gets this treatment 2 or 3 times a year, but as has been said, nothing gives a truly waterproof treatment. You have to buy a truly waterproof garment in the first place for that. Most w/proof bike gear (IIRC, Rukka claim to be different) has an inner w/proof layer, covered by an outer abrasion-resistant layer. The outer layer is treated with something akin to scotchguard which repels some water, but in a long storm the outer layer does get a bit sodden (while the inner layer keeps the water out). Since it's no fun having a sodden, heavy jacket, I like to refresh the outer proofing every now and again (as well as wash the traffic grime off).

hope that helps

I used the spray on my first 5.0. It didn't work at all. I may have noticed a difference standing still, but certanly not at speed. The best products are the wash-in types described above.
