Had to change my headlight bulb today so since I had the screen off I thought I'd run a speed test with and without.

Its the Sport flyscreen from the fine blokes at motorsport
http://www.scooterwest.com/items/?_pageCCS=t#page=/item_details/LX-Sport-Flyscreen-SMOKE/228

Without the screen

With the screen

Note there was a bit of traffic out but I had a mostly clear run down and back the straight where I turned around. Through here the speedo was reading a little over 100 without the screen and a little under 110 with.
Around about a 5kph difference on the GPS.

This was sitting up in a comfy position and with the stock mirrors on and no top case (maybe tomorrow).

Certainly agrees with my thoughts that the screen makes a huge improvement on the open road as you can usually keep up with traffic.

Also a huge difference in comfort!

Hi, glad you posted that. I always wondered if a screen would make a bike faster top speed. What do you think would be the difference having the large oversized windscreen ? Would the results be the same ?

I think much bigger and speed would drop.
But I'm not prepared to look that dorky in the name of science.

Will try with the top box. I think that will be a small improvement.

I'd be interested to know what difference there is between your screen and the Mod screen that is available. I get quite a bit of wind noise from mine which disappears if I stretch up an inch or two. I thought about going with something lower but have also considered trying Saeng micro-swirl edging.

Good result, that is what I would have expected. I usually say that it adds about 5 miles per hour to your top speed and makes the acceleration a bit faster to boot. Cheapest performance mod besides the rider losing weight. Razz emoticon

How is this an accurate comparison -- way to many variables?

Why not a simple top speed run on a long straightaway?

I have both a flyscreen and large windscreen. As the tests indicate, the flyscreen actually helps both speed and comfort. The large windscreen is like riding with the brakes on.

In the middle of the ride theres a out and back run on a 3km straight.

Yes I know I should have hired a wind tunnel or at least closed the roads and done a dozed tests alternating with and without screen and cleaned the fresh bugs off between runs and refilled the gas and built a fence to stop the crosswinds and and checked the tyre pressure and mainly I shouldn't eat burritos for lunch before this.

Here is the smoothed data...

I did a test today with the large screen and without it ... without it my s150 is a rocket and with the screen on its always struggling to find speed..... having said that the large screen protects the eyes and makes the ride a lot more pleasurable ..... unless its in the high 20's cel or high 80s Far i'll keep it on ... and if its going to rain i pray that i havn't taken it off....
