I just joined the forum and thought I would say hello I picked up a used 2005 GT 200 yesterday while horsetrading with the intention of selling it to recoup my money. After charging the battery and siphoning out the old gas I put in a gallon of premium(with a touch of seafoam for good measure) and it fired right up. I aired up the tires and took off. This is a nice scooter for sure and I am really tempted to keep it. The previous owner let it get dented and scratched a few times while transporting it in a trailer so cosmetically it's not perfect but I was impressed with the performance and handling. I took it out on the highway and it topped out at an indicated 70 m.p.h. but it seemed to cruise along at 60 to 65 rather effortlessly. I am in the process of learning about Vespas and will be reading and researching on this forum as time goes by. My new to me scooter is grey and has about 575 miles on it now after I put about 50 on it today I removed the windshield because it was broken and will probably fabricate one from an extra Goldwing windshield that I have. Just to let ya'll know, I like anything with 2 wheels 8)

You picked up a great model! Hopefully you'll get hooked and never want to sell it. Post a picture if you can!

Ok, I got the hint and edited my original post and added a picture. Thankfully my son knows how to do all this computer stuff and helped me ScooterGirl, I live in rural Alabama about 20 miles north of Montgomery. Here are a couple of pictures showing how the previous owner customized my scooter

Used to make the trip through Montgomery, for years, to visit my grandmother in Andalusia. You have some great roads for scooting! You should enjoy some beautiful scenery and great escapes with your "new to you" scooter!

Isn't it funny how you can find a scooter like that with so little miles? Mine only had about 300 when I bought it last year. The GT is a great model and you'll have loads of fun with it. Maybe some of those scratches will buff out a bit. Looks great!

Welcome to MV...I too picked up a 2005 GT200 with only 500 miles on the odometer and have been very pleased with the performance and the ride.
Like many as you drill deeper into the workings of your scoot you'll start to tweak things that you may find helpful.

Do a Search and you'll be able to research and determine if it's something to consider:

1. Evap system modification
2. Front headlamp and rear brake light modulation (Back Off)
3. Install of air horn (i.e. Stebel, Hella)
4. Audible turn signal indicator
5. Cowl protectors (otherwise known as crash bars)

There are more and can be found by doing Search on "Modifications".

IMHO...performance modifications should be carefully looked as I've maintained that the stock drive train works rather well...again this is just my opinion.

Lastly, I agree you can probably be up to the 65 - 70 mph range and maintain a stable riding platform.

Ride Safe!

Thank you everyone for the warm welcome! You're right Stanny, the GT does appear to be a great model but unfortunately the scratches appear to be just a little too deep to buff out. I am going to do research on how to repair the dent and see if it is worth repairing and repainting. I did have loads of fun on my ride yesterday and am going to run to the store on it this morning(I'll take the long way ).
Aloha Judy! I had the pleasure of spending ten days on your beautiful island(Waikiki) years ago when I was a teenager and it left a lasting impression. Took the opportunity to drive around to the north shore and was in awe of the landscape(talk about scooter paradise).
TB, thanks for the headsup on searching for "modifications". I did read a bit last night in the wiki section about the overflow(evap) line attached to the top left part of the carburetor(I have had to twist the throttle a few times in order for it to start) and the airbox bubble thingies(technical term).
There was no gas in the overflow line and no oil in the airbox bubble thingies so I'm going to pull the air filter soon. I did notice the shudder a little bit which is odd because I haven't babied it on take off. I guess I'll remove the round(clutch?) cover and blow out with compressed air if it persists(I don't like the idea of using braklene because chemicals tend to attack other things as well).
ScooterGirl, I was in B'ham just the other day and ate at Costa's before I left. I have also torn up the road of south Alabama on motorcycles over the years and have been through Andalusia, Dozier, etc. many times. There are some good roads down there and nice scenery.
Well I'm off to ride my scoot
